Vermont Leadership Series Training 2010

VLS 2010 participants

In 2010 the Vermont Developmental Disabilities Council and CDCI convened the first ever leadership training series focused on developmental disability advocacy for Vermonters. The first session goal was for the 10 participants to learn the key issues in disability rights, the basic steps to be a leader and how to build an action plan. In May 2010 participants joined for the first of 2 weekend retreats. Workshops included presentations illustrating the history, context and meaning of disability rights issues. Awareness exercises helped each budding leader commit to a goal to make Vermont a better place to live with a disability. Each participant developed an action plan and was assigned a mentor to help them achieve their goal. Participants got back together on a November 2010 weekend and focused on project progress. They completed mid-year reviews and refined their plans, learned about social media campaigns, building allies, staying the course and defining tasks, targets and tactics. Participants received certificates of completion for their investment in the series. Feedback indicated high satisfaction and appreciation from participants.
