Parsons, M.B., & Reid, D.H. (March/April 1999). Training basic teaching skills to paraeducators of students with severe disabilities: A one day program. Teaching Exceptional Children, 31 (4), 48- 54.
The primary focus of this article is on a training model to enhance the skills for teachers and paraeducators in supporting students with severe disabilities in inclusive settings. The Teaching-Skills Training Program (TSTP) is reported to be a validated training model and emphasizes the following four competencies: task analysis, least-to-most assistive prompting, reinforcement, and error correction. There is a training of trainers component that involves teacher training. For paraeducators who participate in the program, they receive training through classroom instruction, on-the-job monitoring and feedback, and follow-up supervision.
