Complete and send in the Camp Application for your child and family before the deadline. Ask your child's service providers to attend camp with your family and have your case manager complete and send in the Team Application for all those who have agreed to attend camp. Once your application is received you will be contacted either by mail or phone as to whether your child was chosen to be a Camp Gizmo Focus Child. If selected a Camp Coordinator will contact you to schedule an interview with you and your child. You will be mailed a Camp Registration form to be completed and mailed back.
Not all of your child's service providers will need to attend camp for your family to qualify, however it is important to get as many as possible to attend camp so they can be involved with the Bright Ideas Team to help identify and apply strategies for solving assistive technology needs for your child.
If you are a Focus Child Family or relative of a focus child your workshop registration is included in the Cost of Camp. The Workshop Registration fee is also waived for Volunteers, ISE Students, and BI-Team Members.
There will be child care available for children 0-4 years old during the hours of Kids Camp, Tuesday and Thursday. Cost is included in the parent's registration fee, there is no registration or meal cost for children under four.
Castleton Hall dorms are fully accessible. Each room has four bedrooms with two single beds surrounding a living room/kitchen area. There is one bathroom for every two bedrooms. The rooms are accessible with a room key only. Most families share a dorm room with their team of service providers. Refrigerators are installed in the focus family rooms.
The day you arrive at Castleton, one family member may wish to go in to Castleton Hall ahead of time and register by completing last minute paperwork and pick up their room key and meal cards for the family. Focus Families are given a walkie talkie. Once you have your room key, volunteers are available to assist with unloading your vehicle and moving your family into your assigned room.
Carry your meal cards with you to the Huden Dining Hall (located next to Castleton Hall). Cafeteria Staff will swipe your card each time you enter the dining area. There are several different food stations available, including a salad bar, sandwich/pizza area, and main course area serving pasta and casseroles. Fountain Sodas, coffee, tea, and water are availabe and a desert bar and ice cream machine. Food is not allowed to be taken out of the dining hall, and the kitchen is only available at certain hours of the day.
Gizmo the Moose is actually our own Center on Disability and Community Inclusion director, Chigee Cloninger. Chigee does a fantastic job of bringing Gizmo to life and camp wouldn't be the same without Gizmo.
