Meeting Dates, Times and Location

If your school or district would like to host an LSCI course, please call Anne Dubie, 802-656-5775 or anne.dubie@uvm.edu. Typically class meets weekly, for 4 hr. sessions in the late afternoon/ early evening, at a host school that is centrally located.

Course Description

This course is designed for educators who serve children and youth who engage in destructive and self-defeating behavior. It is offered in collaboration with Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute. The course follows 27 highly specific competencies for using crisis as a teaching and therapeutic opportunity with students showing six different patterns of self-defeating behavior. Successful completion leads to advanced LSCI certification from the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute. To see current available courses, click here.

Course Requirements

  • Attendance at all class sessions
  • Demonstration of 6 intervention skills in role-play situations
  • Outline the crisis cycle for a situation
  • Write case studies demonstrating use of reclaiming interventions and/or written analysis/self-assessment of LSCI (choice)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts in an objective exam with criterion of 90% correct and pass/fail role-play

Materials and Readings

Registrants purchase a complete set of materials ($450) from the course facilitator at first class session. These include:

  • Text: Life Space Intervention: Talking to Children and Youth In Crisis by Mary Wood and Nicholas Long
  • Videos/ CD: The Life Space Crisis Intervention Series and the American University/Rose School
  • Course Notebook: handouts, bibliography, and reprints of selected articles
