Common Core State Standards and Electronic Literacy: Reading and Writing Strategies with iTools & Assistive Technology
October 31 & November 1, 2013
Capital Plaza, Montpelier, Vermont
Presented by Kelly Fonner
Workshop Description: This two-day workshop will focus on the Common Core State Standards and Electronic Literacy. Our presenter, Kelly Fonner, will approach this topic through an investigation of two overarching subject areas: reading and writing.
Day 1 will focus on strategies to support struggling readers in the curriculum content areas. These strategies will enable struggling readers to successfully comprehend the texts they read on a daily basis. Participants will learn how to systematically teach comprehension strategies and how to use technology to support independent implementation of these strategies.
Day 2 will focus on working through the basic stages of the writing process. Participants will explore effective teaching strategies using a variety of iTools and Assistive Technologies. In addition to these teaching strategies, Kelly will provide examples from Structured Writing approaches for impacting students who do not know where to start when writing, who have difficulty with logical sequencing, who need a visual organizer to provide an overall view for nonlinear thinkers, and who need structure to help alleviate semantic difficulties.
The workshop will address the use and integration of the following programs: Draft Builder, Start to Finish, Solo, Inspiration, Kurzweil 300, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point, Read and Write Gold, Scan Pro, Read Pro, Talking Suite, Spark Space, Writer Companion, and WYNN.
Price: One day workshop: $210. Both days: $375.
