Baker and Research Team Present at Annual Vermont Emergency Preparedness Conference

"Emergency Management Issues for Mobile Home Park Communities"

Dr. Baker along with co-presenters Scott Hamshaw, Kelly Hamshaw, and Sarah Woodward gave a workshop at the 2012 Vermont Emergency Preparedness Conferece held at the Killington Grand Resort on September 17, 2012. Their presentation, entitled "Emergency Management Issues for Mobile Home Park Communities," drew a diverse audience of local, state, and federal emergency management stakeholders interested in learning more about the unique charecteristics and vulnerabliities of mobile home parks to hazards and disasters. The team discussed the impacts of Tropical Storm Irene on mobile home parks in Vermont and the important role that parks play in providing affordable housing opportunities in Vermont. The team shared findngs from a GIS analysis of the state's mobile home parks in relation to floodplains and the results from a statewide park resdient survey. Finally, strategies for engaging park residents and emergency managers in planning efforts were discussed.
