CDAE: Community Development and Applied Economics at UVM

Undergraduate Programs at CDAE

As a student in CDAE, you focus on the application of economic principles and their relationship to leadership and management, economic and business development, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility. We offer three undergraduate majors:

  • Community Entrepreneurship (CEnt)
With Vermont as your laboratory, you acquire knowledge in applied economics and skills in management, strategic planning, marketing, and public policy related to developing or operating a small, natural-resource-based business.
  • Community and International Development (CID)
By integrating theory and applied fieldwork, majors in International and Community Development learn how to combine human and technical strategies that enable both local and international communities to achieve the social, environmental and economic futures they envision.
  • Public Communication (PCom)
Majors in Public Communication learn how communication systems work, how to solve complex communication problems and manage information, and how to apply knowledge to solve communication problems in an increasingly dynamic, global society.

CDAE students are required to demonstrate competency by engaging in a field experience. This can take many forms and includes internships, participation in programs abroad, working in the Attorney General's Consumer Assistance Program, or working with faculty members on applied research projects locally, nationally or abroad.
