Organic food industry and its potentials for improving farm profitability and food safety.

USDA-Hatch, USDA-Hatch.

Organic food has grown significantly in Vermont but there is a lack of market information. This project examines the potential of Vermont's organic food industry. Results from a consumer survey suggest that consumers are willing to pay significantly more for organic apples and milk produced in Vermont and that the willingness to pay for organic products are different across regions and demographic groups. A survey of Vermont organic producers has identified their major concerns and needs for information. Information from this project is useful to organic farmers, consumers, and policymakers.
