Burlington's Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO), the administrator of Vermont's largest AmeriCorps*VISTA program, seeks to fill up to 50 positions in Burlington and statewide as part of its nationally recognized national service program. AmeriCorps*VISTA members spend 1-3 years living in communities they serve, working to increase the capacity of citizens to improve their lives through literacy training, housing assistance, health education, and neighborhood revitalization.

"One cannot speak of community and neighborhood development in Burlington and around the state without acknowledging the incredible efforts of the City's AmeriCorps*VISTA members," says Burlington Mayor Peter Clavelle.

CEDO's AmeriCorps*VISTA program has been working in Burlington's Old North End since 1993 and around Vermont since 1998. Over 160 individuals have served as part of the program since its introduction into Burlington's federally designated Enterprise Community in 1994. In addition to serving with the program, members benefit from an extensive personal and professional development training curriculum and an opportunity to work on an array of service projects including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and the Annual Old North End Spring-Up. The program currently has positions open in a variety of issue areas including literacy and education, community and economic development, arts, public health, and youth empowerment.

A*VISTA Members receive a monthly living stipend, health insurance, and a $4,725 education award to be used for past or future student loans. Interested applicants should contact Erin Massey (865.7170) or Sarah Heath (865.7169), A*VISTA Leaders for further information on opportunities to serve with CEDO's AmeriCorps*VISTA program or log onto http://www.cedoburlington.org
