Bio/Interests:

Christopher J. Koliba, Ph.D. is the Co-Director of the Master of Public Administration Degree Program and an Assistant Professor in the Community Development and Applied Economics Department at UVM. He possesses a Ph.D. and a Master of Public Administration degree from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Prior to arriving at UVM, he spent almost five years at Georgetown University as the Associate Director of the Volunteer and Public Service Center and as a Research Associate with the Center for the Study of Voluntary Organizations and Service housed within the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. His first assignment at UVM was as a research assistant professor with the John Dewey Project on Progressive Education housed within the College of Education and Social Services, where he conducted research on the institutionalization of service-learning in schools. His research interests include organizational change, civic education, cross sector collaborations, applied applications of research data, and educational policy. He is currently working on the empirical development of community of practice theory with Rebecca Gajda.


An experienced workshop facilitator, Chris routinely facilitates faculty development seminars relating to the integration of service into the curriculum at several colleges and universities, and offers workshops on themes relating to community partnership development and reflection. He also consults with organizations, utilizing applied research and group development approaches to support organizational change and program evaluation efforts. He is married, father of three children, and lives in Central Vermont.
