This began as a technical assistance project with UVM faculty, and as it evolved it became clear that many Honduran women wanted the skills and knowledge to run their own businesses. In response to this need UVM faculty and students organized educational workshops about value-added processing and marketing. Ice cream and candy making were presented, which linked this project to the ecological sugar project by using natural cane sugars (which make some tasty ice cream!).

In 2007 a reciprocal learning relationship was developed with the Teijpa Women's Coop in the Department of Lempira, Honduras. After the women of Teijpa shared the process of making decorative paper by hand, a group of UVM students lead a workshop on artisan bookbinding techniques. In 2008 students will expand the bookbinding workshop and assist the cooperative with marketing training and techniques.
