Geoffrey Battista was born and raised on Long Island Sound near New Haven, Connecticut. He attended the University of Connecticut for his undergraduate degree, where he double-majored in economics and anthropology. He supplemented his classwork with practical activities including an internship at Farm Credit East and a summer of farm work in Beira Baixa, Portugal. After he graduated in May 2012, he took advantage of his gap summer to travel in slow motion: a 2000-mile bike trip from Vermont to North Dakota. He now enjoys the enjoyable (if sedentary) existence of a sweater-vested, coffee-high graduate student.

Geoff is currently a graduate research assistant for the department. He is particularly interested in how geographic information systems can be used to address health issues like obesity and healthcare inaccessibility. He is building experience in qualitative research on the side and hopes to work in public health after finishing his degree.
