You may be interested in the debit account program which includes the University of Vermont, Saint Michael's College and Champlain College. UVM's CATcard program began in 1995. Students, faculty and staff began opening accounts and using their cards on campus to purchase everything from tickets for athletic events to text books. Since 1999 we have been busy adding off-campus locations and now have over 100 area businesses participating. Saint Michael's College joined the program in January of 2002 and Champlain College joined in September of 2004. During the academic year of 2003-2004 over 3.5 million dollars was deposited into these accounts with over one million of these dollars going to off-campus businesses accepting the cards.
The equipment needed to communicate with our system can be either a standard Verifone Tranz 330, 380 or 380x2 along with a Verifone printer, model 250. The Verifone Tranz 380x2 will process both credit cards and college card transactions, otherwise a dedicated Verifone Tranz 330 or 380 is necessary for just the CATcard/Knight Card/CC Cash Card transactions. Equipment may be purchased through us (see attached price sheet) or your own banking institution. The equipment and a one time programming fee of $125 are the only startup costs incurred by a business in order to accept the CATcard, Knight Card and CC Cash Cards as a form of payment. Companies wishing to connect more than one business will have the programming fee waived for any locations after the first initial location. Payment for these transactions is mailed during the first week of each month. A statement of daily totals for all transactions is included for the previous month’s total transaction sales less a 6% partnership fee. We also offer the option of semimonthly reports and payment less a fee of 9% for those who would like to be paid twice a month.
The University of Vermont, Saint Michael’s College and Champlain College are very excited at the prospect of your business joining our program. I have included the necessary forms to be completed should you like to join up with the many other area businesses that accept the area college cards. You may either mail in the forms along with the programming fee, hand deliver them to the UVM CATcard Office located in the UVM Bookstore Building at 526 Main St. or I would be happy to pick them up from you at your convenience. Please call me at 656-4501 for answers to any questions you may have.
