Since the AIM courses are to be taken in the second semester of the first year, students who have had no German or Russian before coming to UVM and who have enrolled in GERM 001 or RUSS 001 in their first semester, would take GERM 002 or RUSS 002 courses:
GERM 002 Elementary German
An introduction to all aspects of contemporary standard German: speaking, listening, reading, writing. Cultural components include topics such as music, art, literature, and current events. Offered in the spring.
RUSS 002 Elementary Russian
An introduction to all aspects of contemporary standard Russian: speaking, listening, reading, writing. Cultural components include topics such as: music, art, literature, and current events. Offered in the spring.
For those students who had previous knowledge of either German or Russian and who enroll in GERM 051 Intermediate German or RUSS 051 Intermediate Russian in their first semester at UVM, gateway courses would be GERM 052 or RUSS 052 respectively:
GERM 052 Intermediate German
Comprehensive review of German grammar, vocabulary-building skills, development of reading strategies and compositional abilities, study of contemporary German culture through literary texts. Offered in the spring.
RUSS 052 Intermediate Russian
Continued practical work in all language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing), with more analysis of the structure of Russian. Continuation of cultural components. Offered in the spring.
