03.12.04 JOAN AND EUGENE KALKIN '50 NAMED HONORARY CO-CHAIRS OF THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT

When Joan and Eugene Kalkin '50 were asked to take on a
leadership role in The Campaign for the University of Vermont,
they accepted without hesitation. "We've been so invigorated by
the spirit of this Campaign and the leadership and vision of
President Fogel, that we felt we had to be a part of it," said
Eugene, who chaired the Major Gifts Committee for UVM's first
campaign more than a decade ago. "UVM has raised its sights, and
we want to be there to help make it happen."

As co-chairs of the National Campaign Steering Committee of The Campaign for the University of Vermont, the Kalkins are taking an active role in advancing the Campaign toward its $250 million goal.

The Kalkin name is familiar to anyone with even a passing
acquaintance with the University of Vermont, each having
volunteered their time and talent to UVM in a variety of
capacities over the years, including service on the board of
trustees and school and college advisory boards. They have also
been among the University's most generous benefactors. Their
major gift to the School of Business Administration during the
first campaign enabled the construction of Kalkin Hall, and other
gifts have enhanced a range of University priorities and
initiatives, from the Fleming Museum to Holocaust Studies to
student scholarships.

"Whatever we've given to the University has been returned to us
in so many ways," says Joan. "It's a relationship that has
changed and enriched our lives."
