01.25.04 CAMPAIGN TOTAL NEARS $140 MILLION AT YEAR END
Campaign Total Nears $140 Million At Year End The Campaign for the University of Vermont is well on the way to its $250 million goal, with $139,588,595 in commitments as 2003 drew to a close. "We're very, very pleased with those results," said Ian deGroot, UVM's vice president for development and alumni relations. "At 56 percent of our goal, we're well ahead of projections for this point in the campaign, despite a lackluster economy. With the economy looking much better of late, we're feeling very confident that we can sustain this momentum and meet or exceed our goal." The University began its campaign in July of 2001 and publicly announced its progress in October 2003 upon receiving a $15 million commitment from Stephen '61 and Beverly Rubenstein to support UVM's environmental programs and initiatives. It was the largest individual gift ever received by the University of Vermont. The campaign total stood at $126 million at the time of the public announcement and raised nearly $14 million in the three months following, a record pace for fundraising at the University of Vermont. The campaign focuses primarily on raising funds for student scholarships and faculty support, with additional goals for facilities, libraries, the Robert Hull Fleming Museum, athletics, a Distinguished Visiting Scholars and Artists program, and unrestricted funds. It draws to a close at the end of the 2006-2007 academic year. |
