5.24.07 MAPLE SUGAR MAKERS SUPPORT PROCTOR MAPLE RESEARCH CENTER

UVM's Proctor Maple Research Center (PMRC) is the beneficiary of a six-year, $30,000 commitment from the Chittenden County Maple Sugar Makers' Association to fund the purchase of two new evaporators along with associated equipment and supplies that will further the Center's ongoing maple research activities. This gift is the latest in a series of contributions from the producers' association spanning two decades and totaling more than $100,000. "We are grateful to the Chittenden County Maple Sugar Makers' Association for their charitable gifts, which helped us to build the new Maple Production Research Facility," said PMRC director Tim Perkins. "This latest gift will make it possible to expand our maple sugar processing research using multiple evaporators. We'll be able to compare the effects of different types of equipment and sap-processing techniques on the chemistry, quality, and flavor of maple syrup. This research has not been done before and is of great interst to maple producers in Vermont and around the country."
