11.01.04 SCHOLARSHIP: THE GIFT OF A LIFETIME - A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT DANIEL M. FOGEL AND CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD JAMES PIZZAGALLI

What an exciting time to be a part of the University of Vermont community.

With a shared vision of the greatness within our grasp, we have set our remarkable University on course to becoming the nation’s premier small public research university, preeminent in liberal education and the study of the environment and health, and dedicated to providing students with extraordinary opportunities for learning and personal development and to enhancing the cultural, social, and economic life of Vermont, the nation and the world.

We have already begun the important work that will transform the University over the course of the next decade — the Honors College, with its emphasis on academic rigor and the excitement of intellectual inquiry; an enrollment management plan that will gradually grow the size of the undergraduate and graduate student body while continuing to attract the best and the brightest to UVM; investments in the physical campus that will provide students, faculty, and staff a teaching, learning, living, and working environment that reflects our aspirations for ourselves and for one another.

Our goals are ambitious, as they should be. And the key to our success is embedded in a single word: scholarships. Support for scholarships is the engine that will drive our forward momentum in the decade ahead, ensuring our ability to recruit and retain an exceptionally talented student body and providing the fiscal leverage needed to advance virtually every other aspect of our vision for all that UVM can be. In short, scholarships make everything possible.

A gift to scholarships at UVM is truly the gift of a lifetime. For students, that means a first-rate education that creates opportunity and broadens the perception of the possible. For donors, it means the chance to experience the personal satisfaction that comes from helping to create the future for deserving students and advancing UVM’s goal of attracting a diverse and academically outstanding student body.

Every scholarship gift is important, and the needs are urgent, both for endowments that will provide a reliable source of funding in perpetuity, and for current operating gifts that can be offered as financial aid to deserving students today.

This web site provides an overview of the need and the opportunities for giving, as well as an introduction to a few of the people behind the case for scholarships at the University of Vermont.

Please give generously to scholarships at the University of Vermont. Yours can be the gift of a lifetime.
