04.19.04 SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOMPANY DISPLAY OF THE NETHERLANDISH PROVERBS AT THE FLEMING MUSEUM
Painted in 1610 by Pieter Brueghel the Younger and generously loaned to the Fleming Museum from the collection of Herbert J. and Adele Klapper, The Netherlandish Proverbs illustrates more than 100 proverbs and proverbial expressions known to the public at the time of its creation, many of which are still in use today. The Fleming Museum is hosting series of events in conjunction with this special exhibition, including an international proverb symposium organized by Professor Wolfgang Mieder, Department of German and Russian, that was held March 26 and 27. Other lectures and slide talks continue through May 2, and the painting will be on display until June 6. For details, please check the Fleming Museum's web site at www.uvm.edu/~fleming. |
