02.09.04 UVM VOICES: PROVOST JOHN BRAMLEY'S RECENT NORTHEAST TOUR
UVM Provost and Senior Vice President John Bramley brought a bit of UVM with him in early December for visits with alumni, parents, and friends in the New York and Boston metropolitan areas. "The Voices of UVM — Past, Present, Future" took Provost Bramley and several UVM deans and alums to five locations over three days to showcase some of the outstanding people and programs emblematic of academic excellence at the University of Vermont. William Shean '79 hosted the first of two Boston events, featuring remarks by alumni Eric Schwarz '83 and Ned Rimer '83, founders of Citizen Schools in Boston; John Werner, director of the Citizen Schools 8th Grade Academy; and Jill Tarule, Dean of the College of Education and Social Services. Also in the Boston area, James Atwood '83 hosted the event featuring Pam McDermott '73, owner of McDermott Ventures, a public relations and marketing firm, who was named one of Boston's 50 most powerful women by Boston Magazine in 2003; and Rocki-Lee Dewitt, Dean of the School of Business Administration. Arthur Tauber '58 hosted the New Jersey gathering, featuring remarks by alumnus Mark Biedron '74, founder and trustee of The Willow School, a K-8 school in New Jersey with newly constructed facilities that incorporate the latest in environmentally sensitive and energy-efficient design; and Donald DeHayes, Dean of the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources. In New York City, the event was hosted by Nicole Labranche '88 and included remarks by Julie Anderson '80, a director of documentary programming for HBO whose work has earned her four Emmy awards, several ACE awards, and two Peabody Awards; and College of Arts and Sciences Dean Joan Smith. Jim Higgins '96 hosted in Connecticut, with remarks by alumnus Andrew Feldman MD'78, team surgeon for the New York Rangers and a doc for many New York-area athletes; Betty Rambur, Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences; and Rachel Johnson, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. |
