10.4.03 KICKOFF OF THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT A HUGE SUCCESS
October 4, 2003 – More than 600 attendees were present at the dinner and dance celebration last night at the Shelburne Farms Coach Barn to officially launch the Campaign for the University of Vermont. Those present at the event included alumni and parent volunteers and donors, and friends of to the University who traveled to Burlington to attend the kickoff and other events as part of the University’s annual Homecoming and Family Weekend festivities. “As of this evening, thanks to the exceptional generosity of several donors, our Campaign total to date stands at $126 million,” said President Daniel Mark Fogel, who took office in 2002 as the University began its most aggressive fundraising campaign in its 200-year history. “We celebrate our successes tonight, and look forward to building on that tremendous momentum toward achieving our lofty – but attainable – goals for the Campaign for the University of Vermont.” “The University is in so many ways stronger than it has been in many years,” said Bruce Lisman, Class of 1969, Trustee and Chair of the National Campaign Steering Committee. “This is a University with an inspiring vision for its future and that knows what it will take to get there. There’s a sense on campus of energy and optimism and limitless possibilities, and that has a great deal to do with the leadership of President Fogel.” Event attendees were treated to an interactive, radio-style multimedia program featuring Tom Slayton, Class of 1963, editor of Vermont Life magazine, as audio host. The presentation highlighted several profiles of University of Vermont faculty, students, and researchers who exemplify the human side of the institution. “I've said it many times, but only because it's so true: a university, above all, is made up of people — bright and talented students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends who share a lifelong connection and commitment to a place of learning and the ideals it has come to stand for,” Fogel said. “We are embarked together on one of the most important missions this remarkable University has ever undertaken. The greatness to which we aspire is now within our grasp.” |
