Assignments & Announcements:

  1. Contact your group members for the Group Critical Analysis presentation and Practice.
  2. Bring Flash Drive (2+ Gigs) to lab when you present (Individual / Persuasive / Choice).
  3. Check Syllabus speaking schedule for when you are presenting and your lab role.
  4. Outside Speech Critique assignment.  UVM lecture calendar site.  Due week of Oct 21.
Tips From TAs:
  1. Follow the Critique Sheets!
  2. Don't Apologize if you make a mistake - just keep going!
  3. Objectives much say how the audience will be changed: "I'm going to talk to you about rock climbing" is NOT an objective.  "After my presentation you will know the basics of rock climbing" is an objective.
  4. Restate must knows must be SPECIFIC (not "I've gone over apples to use, oven temperature, and how to serve."  Instead it should be "Remember use only Granny Smith Apples, Bake at 350 degrees F, and serve with a slice of Sharp Ceddar Cheese").
  5. Have a STRONG ENDING separate from the restate must knows.
  6. PAUSE FOR EFFECT!
  7. DRESS - conservative & more formal than usual.
  8. It is YOUR responsibility to set up the technology - not the TAs.  Set up BEFORE lab starts.
  9. Lab Roles
  10. Everyone is expected to arrive early and stay the whole time - go to the bathroom before lab.
  11. Source any facts that are not common knowledge.
  12. Repeat questions asked at the end of your presentation.
