Please put away all electronic
devices (laptops, smart phones, Ipods, etc.) and take out
something to write with and paper.
Tips

Have them TIME you.
- Pause
for Effect
should be two
full seconds
of
silence.
Don't say "Um"
during the pause.
- Do
not have any
notes in your
hands when you
are
presenting.
Put notes on
desk nearby to
refer to -
keep your hand
free.
- Objectives
must clearly state
how
the audience
will be
changed "After
my
presentation
you will know
and do
_____".
Do not just
say "I'm going
to talk to you
about _____" -
that is NOT
an objective.
- Strong
Endings should
be separate
from specific
must-know
summaries.
- Keep
text to an
absolute
minimum on
PowerPoint slides.
Use images
instead of
text (with
sources
cited under
image).
- Don't
talk to the screen - talk to the audience.

Announcements:
- Practice
your choice presentations in front of others and get feedback.
- Check Syllabus (CALS
001, CALS
183) speaking schedule for
when you are presenting and your lab role.
- Formal Introductions
in Lecture will continue next week and
the week after until finished.
- CALS 001
students, visit with your academic
advisor and have them sign the
Advisor Meeting Form. Join a club or organization.
