University of Vermont

The College of Arts and Sciences

Department of Biology

Bachelor of Art (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Zoology

What do I major in?

Incoming students are often unsure which major to pursue (especially difficult may be the decision to pursue the BA or BS degree). Therefore, we recommend that such students initially begin with the Biology BA degree program. Students can easily switch anytime during their first several semesters with the aid of their academic advisors.

One of the many areas of biology is zoology — the study of animal life. Zoology studies range from the cellular to the whole animal; zoologists are biological scientists concerned with behavior, origins and life processes of animals.

At UVM, zoology majors can earn either a BA degree or a BS degree. Talk to your advisor about the difference and which one is best for you.
