A Note on Ticker Symbols

 

Any stock traded on any exchange has a ticker symbol, which is an abbreviation for the company.  Sometimes they’re obvious, like IBM or DIS, but sometime they’re not (try BAC).  In order to trade a stock, you have to know its symbol.  It also helps to know something about the company.  You can find this information on the company’s web site (check under corporate relations, or something like that on the firm’s home page).  Other good places to go are:
