General Farm Biosecurity Practices

Cleaning and disinfection are important practices that minimize the spread of disease between animals on a farm. Many of the recommendations in this section are common sense, but they need to be followed routinely to promote farm animal biosecurity. The information on disinfectants will help you select the right one for the job at hand. Section topics include manure handling, sanitation, housing of different animal groups, pen/hutch use and disinfection, feed storage and bunk management, facility maintenance, boot cleaning, disinfection in on-farm biosecurity, and a guide to disinfectants. Disposal of dead animals covers the basics of composting deadstock. Click on the topic of interest at the left to go to that page.
