*Rodney S. Patterson Award *- Rodney S. Patterson, was the former Director of the ALANA Student Center (formerly known as Office of Multicultural Affairs) and friend to many in the UVM community. He was a voice for the ALANA community and committed to the academic and personal success of students. This award is given to a first-year student for their commitment to academic success and determination to creating a better environment for the ALANA community.
*Allan B. Urgent Award* - Allan Urgent is a former ALANA student at UVM who exhibited a remarkable commitment to social justice. Staunchly committed to equality for all students, he was the first recipient of this award that was later named in his honor. Each year we honor two students who we feel embody the spirit of advocacy and social justice in general.
*Lufuno Tshikororo Award* Lufuno Tshikororo was an alumna and staff member at UVM and a tireless activist and supporter of students and the ALANA Student Groups until her death in 1998. She was a committed leader and visionary who we continue to remember through this award for her love, courage, and granite-solid determination to make the world a better place for all. This award is for an emerging leader.
*Rodger Summers Award* - Rodger Summers created, initiated, and directed the minority student program, later known as the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and more recently known as the ALANA Student Center. We honor the contributions of Rodger as a leader and visionary through this award for students who have demonstrated leadership and vision.
*Angela Batista Award* Angela is an alumna and a former staff member at the ALANA Student Center, Angela was highly committed to issues of equity and social justice. This award is given to a student who exemplifies a commitment to social justice and change through anti-racist work.
*Timothy R. Shiner Ally Award* This award is given to students who, though not ALANA Students, have demonstrated a strong commitment to work within the ALANA community in an effort to create social change.
*Outstanding Staff/Faculty Award* This award is given to a UVM staff or faculty member who has displayed a continual commitment to leadership, advocacy, and social justice in the ALANA and other communities. This award, more than any other, comes from the students who nominate that person.
*Community Builders Award*: This award is presented to those students who have through their enthusiasm and hard work helped to create a stronger community. Both of these people use their connections and buddy lists to round up the troops to have fun or help make sure our programs go off without a hitch.
*Outstanding Club Advisor/s: *This award is presented to those club advisors who have gone above and beyond the call of duty with enthusiasm and passion for both the members and the mission of the clubs they advise.
Deadline for nominations is March 18, 2005.
