Department of Art & Art History

Major in Art Education

For a detailed listing of all courses required for an Art Education major, go to the Art Ed Check Sheet section (pdf) in the Art Education Handbook. The Handbook (pdf) is on the Art Education page which is found on the Studio Art and Art History Department website. It is imperative that you consult this check sheet and meet with your advisor in order to map out a timely schedule of courses over 8 semesters.

Art Education majors must complete 36 in studio art, 12 in art history, 9 in professional education, 17 in art education, 12 in student teaching, 24 in general liberal arts education, and 14 in electives.

A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA is required for the degree with licensure endorsement.

30 of the last 45 credits of a degree must be completed in residence at UVM.

It is your responsibility to make sure all your requirements, including the total number of credits to graduate, are met in time for intended graduation. Check your CATS Report and plan ahead with your advisor. Be organized and think ahead.

Race & Culture course requirements may be fulfilled by combining them with other requirements. Be sure to check with your advisor for more information.

If you wish to fulfill a General Ed requirement with a course that is not listed under acceptable courses, you may fill out a Course Equivalency Form found on CESS website. Check with your advisor.

In early fall look for an email from your advisor about an important meeting for all art education majors. This meeting will cover every aspect of the Art Education major, including advice from fellow majors on approaches to scheduling.
