To declare a major or a minor
complete this form from the College or Arts and Science


Some classes have prerequistes.
To see what they are, look here for Studio Art, or here for Art History or here for Art Education. You can find course prerequisites on the comment section of the Registrar's website under Schedule of Courses.


To register if a class is closed
you need instructor's signature on the instructor permission form (override) to get into the class. Here is the form. Hardcopies are available in the Art Office as well.


If you want to withdraw from a class right after the add/drop deadline
but before the last day of withdrawal, you need to have the signature of the class instructor and your academic advisor on the withdrawal form. After last day of withdrawal, you need in addition to the instructor's and advisor's signature the signature of the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.


An independent study
is intended for a student who has taken all the course offerings in a particular studio, art education, or art historical area and wants to pursue a deeper inquiry.

An internship
allows students to gain credit by testing their skills and interests in real world settings


To register for a internship
you must fill out this contract. An internship must be approved by the department chair.


There is a folder with internship options in the Art Office for your review.


The prerequisites to do an independent study or internship in Studio Art are:
ARTS 197: You must be a junior or senior standing and have completed at least six credit hours in 100-level studio art classes.
ARTS 281: You must be a studio art major and senior standing. You must have completed at least six credit hours in 100-level studio art classes.
The pre-requisites to do an independent study or internship in Art History: ARTH 190 and ARTH 197: You must have completed at least six credit hours in 100-level art history classes.


The Department gives four competitive awards annually:
the Hewitt and Crawford Memorial prizes to two outstanding juniors and the Jennifer Goldstein Memorial prize to two outstanding seniors.
