The School of the Arts Program in Art and Art History at UVM inspires your capacity to create, while encouraging you to think broadly by incorporating perspectives from multiple disciplines. Small classes give you deep exposure to ideas and experiences of your professors and peers, and provide you the latitude to develop your own methods of creative expression. The School of the Arts Program in Art and Art History offers programs of study in studio art, art history, and art education.

Studio Art

As a studio art major you’ll discover a broad range of courses in drawing, ceramics, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, digital art, graphic design and time-based media. While taking advantage of the resources and creative energy of a large university, you’ll discover small classes taught by skilled educators who are also productive working artists themselves.

If you are seeking a strong foundation in the liberal arts and aspire to graduate study or a career in arts administration, our art history program provides you with the building blocks to create a successful academic career.

Art Education

If you are passionate about teaching, UVM’s art education program combines coursework in studio art and art history with practical classroom experience; the B.S. in Art Education leads to a Vermont educator's license for K-12 Art or to other teaching opportunities such as private schools, community-based programs, or museum education.
