The second floor of the Rowell Building was renovated to create a central simulation lab hub for instruction in clinical skills at the University of Vermont in collaboration with Fletcher Allen Health Care. The lab employs state of the art technology to serve undergraduate health science students, medical students, residents in training, clinical staff and faculty as well as other professionals in the community. This project will also physically connect the Rowell and Given buildings on the second floor with a new connector bridge to facilitate access between the existing assessment center, Fletcher Allen and the new lab.
The renovated space, totaling 9000 square feet, included 6 patient rooms, a multi-purpose room (for simulations such as OR, ER, trauma, etc.), a professional skills/task training lab, a surgical skills lab, debrief rooms and administrative support space. This central hub was linked with smaller satellite sites with a data capture and management system.
