Aiken Stairway Renovation

Replacement of the Aiken stairways will include site work, demolition, foundations, new retaining walls and handrails, drainage and landscaping improvements. Stairway will be closed to pedestrian traffic and signage will re-route pedestrian traffic to alternate routes.  Please expect noise and construction activity.  Aiken Building northwest entrance, Davis Center 2nd floor southeast entrance and Terrill Hall 2nd floor south entrance will be closed to all but emergency egress.

Dudley H. Davis Center Fit-Up of Shell Space for Catering

Brennan’s Café will be off-line with the exception of previously scheduled events for portions of the summer to allow for mechanical and electrical utilities tie-in for the fit-up of adjacent space.

The shell space adjacent to Brennan’s Café will be fit-up to support the relocation of catering operations currently housed in the MAT Residential Hall. These activities include food prep and assembly for campus wide catering request. Construction will produce localized noise and require scheduled shut-downs for utility tie-ins.

Englesby House Accessibility Ramp

Work will include installation of a new ADA accessible ramp and improvements to the east entrance and porch of Englesby House, replacement of asphalt paving and installation of new curbing and sidewalks.  There will be replacement of the South Williams Street sidewalk within the City right-of-way.  Fencing will be installed and landscape improvements will occur on the south and east sides of the Englesby lot.  Impacts are local.  Some delay or re-routing of pedestrian traffic on the College and South Williams Street sidewalks will occur throughout the project.

Harris Residential Hall Roof Replacement

May 20 through May 31, the contractor will be removing the stone ballast from the roof and loading membrane rolls and temporary ballast as needed to secure the roof.

July 1 through August 10, the contractor will be removing and replacing the existing membrane, insulation board and permanent ballast.

Contractor will access Harris Hall from the east and west elevations only. The top (4th) floor will remain vacant during the work. All other floors and entryways will remain operational.

Ballast will be removed by a vacuum for cleaning and reinstallation. Roof membrane and insulation will be stripped. Expect noise and some dust. Reinsulating will require mechanical fastening. Expect noise.
Membrane installation will require use of adhesive. Expect some odor. Ballast reinstallation will be noisy.

Renovation to St. Joseph's Villa on the Trinity Campus

Renovations will include a new roof, electrical service, ADA access and architectural improvements to both the interior and exterior of the building.  Construction will be local with occasional interruptions to the pedestrian walkway toward McAuley Hall and parking spaces on the west side of the villa.  A new power source for the Villa will originate in Mann Hall and run above the ceiling on the ground floor.  Trinity Campus should expect normal construction traffic in the vicinity of the St. Joseph’s Villa only.

Temporary Relocation of Childcare Operations from Living & Learning Building C to McAuley Hall

May 13 through August 10, 2013.   McAuley Hall has been taken off-line for all regular occupancy and events for the duration.

Childcare operations will relocate to McAuley Hall on May 13. They will re-open for summer business May 22 – August 2.  Childcare personnel and faculty currently in L&L Building C will be relocated to McAuley second floor.  Access to McAuley will be with CATCard Authorization only.

The first and second floors will be temporarily occupied by the Childcare Center. The traffic circle in front of McAuley will be designated for childcare drop off and pick up only.  Parking for relocated faculty and staff will be in the lot to the north of McAuley and space at the perimeter of the lot will be designated for summer storage trailers. Access to the “Back Five” will be maintained.

Living & Learning Building “C” Renovation

May 13 through August 10, 2013.  Building has been taken off-line for all regular occupancy and events for this duration.

Childcare operations will relocate to McAuley Hall from May 22 – August 2.  All levels of building C student suites, including the south connector hallway to the Commons will be renovated.  Access will be authorized construction personnel only.

Student room suites will be upgraded to include replacement of exterior balconies with increased living space, new bathrooms, lighting and upgraded interior finishes. Childcare will be renovated to increase interior footprint and upgrade finishes. Contractor will access building C primarily from the west elevation. The traffic circle and parking area at the west entry will be fenced for contractor vehicles. Pedestrian access to the Commons will be maintained.

Renovation of the lower level of Marsh-Austin-Tupper (MAT) Residential Complex for Pathways Administrative Offices

The lower level below the MAT Student Commons will be secured for construction. Occupant access will be limited to the south building entry after August 8. Restrooms on the lower level will be off-line for the duration. Directional signage for access and temporary facilities will be posted as required to maintain occupant operations.

The restrooms and kitchen space on the ground floor of Marsh Hall will be renovated to provide ADA and code compliant access and public facilities.  New office space with conference rooms and break room will be constructed. Construction will produce localized noise and require scheduled shut-downs for utility tie-ins. Signage will be employed to direct pedestrian traffic to occupied spaces and rigid barriers will be used as needed to secure the construction site.

Renovation of the Student Commons Area of Marsh-Austin-Tupper (MAT) Residential Complex

Phase 1 (Public Access Areas) May 20 – August 10, 2013
Phase 2 (Other Areas) May 20 – December 13, 2013

The main level of the MAT Student Commons will be secured for construction beginning May 20. Access to this area will be limited to construction only through August 10.  Beginning August 10, public access restrooms, offices, entries and hallways will re-open.  Remaining areas under construction (kitchen, multi-purpose, large lounge and former music rooms) will be secured with temporary barriers until completion on December 13. Directional signage for access and temporary facilities will be posted as required to maintain occupant operations.

All common use space and limited office space on the main floor of the MAT Residential Hall will be renovated to provide a general purpose classroom for 30-35, upgraded office space, entry desk, multi-purpose meeting and living rooms and student kitchen. Construction will produce localized noise and require scheduled shut-downs for utility tie-ins. Signage will be employed to direct pedestrian traffic to occupied spaces and rigid barriers will be used as needed to secure the

Renovation and Replacement of the
Southwick Parking Lot

Work will include replacement of sub-base, asphalt, installation of new storm drain structures and lighting improvements.  Construction traffic limited to Davis Road with exit only to Main Street.  Some localized construction noise will occur and limited delays to vehicular traffic on Davis Road.  Construction activity is limited to the hours of 7:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday.

Replacement of Detection Strip and Installation of New Paving at the Colchester Avenue Entrance to Trinity Campus

Replacement of traffic signal detection equipment and paving at the Colchester Avenue entrance to the Trinity Campus.  Some delays may be necessary exiting the Trinity Campus and entering Colchester Avenue.  One lane of access will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will be provided.  Hours of construction will be limited to 9:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday thru Friday. 

Permission has been granted by UVM Campus Planning and the City of Burlington for work to be performed on Saturday, June 8th, in order to minimize impacts to the Trinity Campus and Burlington streets and sidewalks.
