Darius K. Jonathan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Asian Languages and Literatures (beginning January 09), was born in Amadi, state of Equatoria, southern Sudan. He received his B.A. in Social Anthropology and Arabic at the University of Khartoum, Sudan in 1973 and received his M.A. in Linguistics at University of Hawaii 1978. He served as a member of the Faculty of Arts at University of Khartoum, 1973-1976, 1978-1980 teaching Arabic as a Second Language and Introduction to Language and Linguistics. He has taught Arabic Language and Linguistics from 1979 to present as a private contractor in many different venues such as language schools and military bases.
Mr. Jonathan speaks the following languages: English, Arabic, Juba Arabic, Moru, Shilluk, and Nuer.
He has taught English as a Second Language from 1979 to present at high schools in Hawaii and in Canaan, N.Y.; at Harvard University English Language Extension Program in Cambridge, MA. in 2001; and at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, MA in 2003-04.
