PhD Student Presents at Yale Food Sovereignty Conference

Margarita Fernandez recently gave a presentation at the Yale Food Sovereignty Conference in September in New Haven, CT. She presented with ARLG leader Ernesto Mendez and Christopher Bacon of Santa Clara University. The title of the presentation was "Seasonal hunger in coffee communities: Integrated analysis of livelihoods, agroecology, and food sovereignty with smallholders of Mexico and Nicaragua." Margarita's dissertation research will explore the relationship between agrobiodiversity, food security, food sovereignty and rural livelihoods in coffee growing communities of Chiapas, Mexico and northern Nicaragua. She was recently featured in a newspaper in Cuba after presenting at the IV International Agroecology Conference, sponsored by La Asociacion Nacional de Agricultores Pequeños (ANAP).
