Quiz on Present Yourself is coming up on Sept 30 (two weeks away)

Four to Six page paper critiquing a formal speech given outside of class (due: Friday Oct 31, 4pm) peer edited by a lab-mate.  Suggestions (pass around), check the events posted on public bulletin boards around campus, UVM Events Calendar Web Page, Burlington Free Press, Cynic, & 7-Days.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Practice the standing exercise.  Keep hands out of pockets, no hats while speaking.
  2. Practice and prepare the dramatic reading and the informational presentations.
  3. Get Videotape and/or SDHC card for the cameras, and read The Art of Public Speaking: Chapters. 2, 4, 5 & Appendix A7-10 (I Have a Dream);  Read Present Yourself, Chapters 4-6
  4. View some Political Speeches (Friday September 26th, Oct 2, 7, 15!) by the Obiden or McPalin campaigns and recognize and name the propaganda techniques used. 

Be sure you know your Speech date and lab role assignment.

Formal Class Introductions (graded, 5%).  End with "That's Me!" or "Thank You".  Don't End with "That's about it".  No hats, gum, hands out of pockets.
