CALS 85 TA Notes for Thursday 3 November, 2011

Save spreadsheet of lab grades in multiple places!

Final Lab Project Due Dates:
   -Early Bonus (+15 points): Friday 18 November, 4pm
   -Due Date: Friday2 Dec, 4pm
   -If late: -10%, then starting Monday 5 December 4pm -5% per day (4pm deadline).
   -Deadline: Friday 9 Dec 4pm.  Nothing accepted after this deadline!

IN LAB: Introduce the Final Lab Project:
    -Approx 20 hours of Work, don't wait to start!
    -25% of course grade!  150 Points
    -Show facsimile examples
    -Show Web page of instructions, including checklist at bottom
    -Spend at least 45 minutes of lab having students search for data
    -Order of construction: Find Data First, Construction Tables & Graphs in Excel,
      Start writing Project Theme section, Data Sources section, then paste in
      Table & Graphs from Excel.  
    -Make Cover Sheet, Title Page, Table of Contents as Separate Documents (files)
      so can start Project Theme section as Page 1.
    -Explain Students are expected to go to lab until they hand in their project.
      If not in lab: lose attendance points!

Final Grades Due Dates:
   -Please email your lab grades & comments to jleonard@uvm.edu
     before Friday December 9, 4pm.
   -Please put all your graded Final Lab Projects in the OUT box
     outside Dr. L's office door (208H Morrill) before Friday December 9, 4pm

Next week, go over with students:
   -Cover Sheet, Title Page, Table of Contents.  Make separate docs.
     Leader for Table of Contents in Word is Page Layout tab, Paragraph
     section (click on arrow lower right), Tabs button lower left.
   -Seamonkey Composer - show problem with image tags!

Next week we will meet briefly to go over Tab formatting, and Composer.
We will also meet briefly on Thurs Nov 17th & 28th (Monday TAs)
for class evaluations etc.
