You can add UVM news headlines to your right menu (or Quick Links box). These news headlines can be drawn from any of the categories on this category list. For an example of what this looks like see the Research Site.
To add news you'll need to append the following on to your defaultmenu.html or configuration file: news=academics.
In this example, academics is the category that you wish to display.
You can also easily display article lists in your content area. To do so, create a link with a target similar to the example below: ?Page=News&category=academics. Sub-categories can be accessed similarly:?Page=News&category=sports:hockey:mens.
When you display article lists like this, you have the option of adding a header to the list. If you would like to make use of this option, save your header as news_header.html in the same location that you are displaying the article list. It will be included automatically. You can also alter the heading by adding a caption, using the "+" symbol in lieu of spaces, for example: ?Page=News&category=sports:hockey:mens&caption=UVM+Catamounts+Ice+Hockey. The number of news stories can be set similarly using &howmany=25.
You may also choose to create your own news stories to deliver on your Web site. To do so you will need to contact the Web Team; we'll sit down with you and show you how to post stories and then display them on your site.
There are several options for displaying news content. Some of these options can be controlled via the linking listed above, additionally you can set options by creating or editting a file titled news.conf Available are listed here (default settings are indicated in bold):
