Keeley Bertrand Weening has worked at the Vermont Department of Health Laboratory as a microbiologist since 1986. She and her husband, Jim, have two children, Addison Joan and Jamie. They live in Bristol, Vt., “in a house that was a real ‘fixer-upper’ (and it’s almost fixed up).” Besides being a mom, working full-time, and working on the house, Keeley is a Brownie Girl Scout leader and a Red Cross volunteer. Ann Bowen is a perioperative team leader for ear, nose, and throat, oral-maxillo-facial, and ophthalmological surgery and assistant team leader for neurosurgery at her hospital. In her free time, she is crew chief for William “Ace” Smith when he races. Ace owns BFR Motorsports and drives two Mazda RX7 race cars. One of the RX7s is a hill-climb and autocross car, which he has used to win several regional and divisional championships, including the 1994 Pennsylvania State Solo II and SCCA NEDiv Solo I series in 1997 and 1998. The new car is going to be run in E-production SCCA in 1999. Julie Collier Edelson and her husband, Jeff, welcomed their first child, Steven Theodore, on November 2, 1998, five weeks early. Greetings, classmates. The news to report this issue is a bit lean. I need to hear from you. Just reading about me will be quite dull for you all. Class of '85

It appears that most of us have been having a great year—I did not receive many letters this quarter. I hope you all realize that when I don’t get much to write about, it makes my job a lot harder. I may have to start making things up about people. As for myself, I do the sales and marketing for a start-up coffee company. Our company grows coffee in Maui, Hawaii. We are in the process of bringing our coffee products into the mainland U.S. market. Keep an eye out for our line, Maui’s Kaanapali Estate Coffee, and pour yourself a cup of paradise. Adam Barrett, Al Bauman, and Mark Bonanno wrote to tell me that they survived a few seafaring days on Adam’s sailboat. The trio met up with Paul Christensen ’86 for a night. Adam, who is married with a two-year-old daughter, owns his own advertising agency. Al owns a computer consulting company and, along with his wife Susan Angelina, has two children. As for Mark, he spends his time lawyering, grad school teaching, windsurfing in Oregon, and “accepting wife applications.” (For those interested, I can get his address.) Michael Sage was named a partner in the financial restructuring practice at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft’s New York office. Katherine Wierengo Russell, her husband, and children Victoria and Samantha are living in Dracula, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta. Katherine is director of distribution for a men’s apparel company. His wife Patricia is a registered pharmacist. Barbara Strehle Dolce wrote hoping to get in touch with some of her old geology classmates. If you want to get in touch with her, please write me and let me know what’s going on in your life. Well, that is it for now. See you next quarter…

Class of '86

The Burlington area continues to grow and change, with expanded malls, new stores and great restaurants, changes to the campus, etc. Luckily, it still has that fun, small-town feel with lots of events and activities to keep us busy. Anyway, on with the news…Hope Connors wrote in to say that she was fortunate enough to see Jody Staunton and Bill Jaffe ’88 in New Cannan, Conn. She also attended Tom McCargo and Sarah Gordon’s wedding on Martha’s Vineyard in September 1998, where she ran into Grant McCargo ’84, Quentin Jaffe ’84, and Trist Deery. Class of '87

Hi, everyone. Hope all of you are enjoying the warmer weather these days…in New York, we cannot complain. We just got through another mild winter…not like Burlington at all. I spent almost a week skiing in Vail last March and felt the “ghosts” of Risa Dean, Howard Brophy, Bill Gage, Ed Howe, Smiley Lessard, Jennifer Kohnen, and Keri Wolfson everywhere (especially at the Red Lion for happy hour). I missed all of you. The news has dropped off slightly, so, again, I encourage everyone to send me an update. Congratulations to Cathy Colton Dunlap and husband Vic, who celebrated the birth of their daughter, Elle (Eleanor Marion), on November 12, 1998. Cathy wrote that she is still working at the Wilderness Lodge at Disney as an area recreation manager. After years of working there, she just ran into Diane White Mealo at a meeting. Diane works for the Reedy Creek District at Disney. Jennifer Borden Mikell sent a note saying that she is “having a grand time” working for fellow classmates Kevin Owens and Jeff Beer, who own a very successful graphic design, screen printing, and embroidered corporate apparel business. That sound like a blast. By the way, I know that Jeff and Mia Beer had a baby boy last fall, but I’m blanking on the name and the birth date…please let me know so I can include it in the next column. Jennifer also works with Bill “Curly” Peterson ’88 and has two sons, Davis, who is three, and Sam, born in May 1998. Will Warren is living in South Hero, Vt., with his wife, Reina Schloss Warren, their daughter, Silva, and two dogs. Hi there, UVMers from the class of 1988. It’s me again, your crazy class secretary, hoping this column finds all of you happy and healthy. One thing’s for sure; you are all very, very busy. Only received news from a few of you for this quarter. Please take a moment to send me a blurb; there are a bunch of people that would love to hear what you’re up to. Jeffrey Kremer wrote, “I have been living in New York City since the fall of ’92. I got married in 1995 and had a son in March 1998. Not wanting to raise my son in New York City, I made arrangements to transfer to Portland, Oreg. Michael is still racing bicycles in his spare time. He won first place in a local Vermont road race. Amy Walchenbach Emery is enjoying graduate school at Marymount University part time.
