Class of '60

Can you believe it’s time for our 40th reunion? That’s right, on the weekend of June 1-4, 2000, we will be joining lots of other celebrants for a very special reunion weekend. Class president Al Peterson has agreed to chair the reunion effort, and he is looking for some help. Bryna Cohen Alper of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., enjoyed the 12th annual Florida get-together with Hope Simon (’61) Grayson, Steven Grossman ’61 and Carole Nagelsmith (’63) Greenberg. In May, she attended the wedding of Robert and Ann Drexler (’61) Roffman’s son, Michael, in New York. Roger Amidon of Columbia, S.C., addressed the World Organization of General and Family Physicians in Taipei, Taiwan, last March. In October 1998, he gave the keynote address, before the Chinese Rehabilitation Society in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Sylvia Cozzi Asselin and her husband are now retired. They make their home in Ridgefield, Conn., but they now enjoy doing a bit of traveling. Joan Lord Birmingham also enjoys her recent retirement but continues to have fun helping husband Eric ’61 in his office part-time. The Birminghams have four grandsons, who live nearby. They enjoy summers at Lake Winnepesaukee, N.H., and Florida visits during long winters. Ronald Brand of Clinton Corners, N.Y., was promoted to senior vice president for engineering, environmental affairs, and special projects at Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp. in November 1998. Howard Busloff moved into New York City and purchased a co-op in Florida. He also enjoyed travel to Greece and Turkey. Donald Colson recently retired from The Menninger Clinic, after thirty-three years, to begin a private practice of clinical psychology and psychoanalysis. Harry Daniels of Barre, Vt., enjoyed a reunion with Craig Tillinghast, Tony Smart, Pete McGibney, Gail Backus, Eric Birmingham, and Fred Norton in Boston. Helen Fellows lives in San Francisco, but spends time during the summer in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, studying Spanish. Renee Leipzig Fink is enjoying life in Fearrington Village, N.C. Col. Howard Fraser enjoyed a recent visit from Emilie Coulon, CEO of Graystone Mortgage Corp., of Sudbury, Mass. He often visits with Al Peterson and his son, Craig, and sees Rick Barrett, too. He hears from Kate VanArman ’95, a U.S. Army nurse stationed in Korea. Howard’s daughter, Wendy, a U.S. Air Force captain, was home at Christmastime and is now stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. Judith Gerber Hammond of Bal Harbor, Fla., is taking care of aging parents and maturing adult children. Janet Baker Huston is a part-time family nurse practitioner in Schenectady County, N.Y., public health clinics and the Schenectady County jail. She and her husband enjoy spending special time with their grandchildren. Kenneth Klein has two grandchildren, Bradley and Austin, and he was expecting the arrival of a third shortly. He lives in New Rochelle, N.Y., and especially enjoys spending summer with his whole family at his Fire Island house. Caroll Lawes recently sold the twenty-five-year-old structural engineering firm he founded to McFarland-Johnson, Inc., of Binghamton, N.Y., and he will be a vice president in the company. Barbara Evans Little wrote that her husband, Ed, retired after thirty-six years as a secondary school teacher, administrator, coach, and guidance director in Vermont public schools. He was caregiver to Barbara after her open heart surgery, and they are happy to report that she is doing very well. Marie Napoliello Louis wrote from Nassau, Bahamas, that her children gave her two recent additions to her family, grandchildren Brandon and Virginia Marie. Joan Loveridge-Sonbonmatsu was invited to give a lecture tour in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan in 1997, and the following year she received a Presidential Citation for Social Change from the ARC Overseas Association. She has had several poems published. Joan is now a professor emerita at SUNY Oswego. She is learning Spanish at the Center for Bilingual Multicultural Studies in Cuernavaca, Mexico., and she continues to teach. Linda Morell retired from NYNEX in 1995 after thirty-three years of service. She lives in Colchester, Vt., works part-time in Walden Books. Her leisure time is spent volunteering at the Flynn Theater and at the Discover Jazz Festival and working on activities in her church. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her granddaughter, Kaya. Judith Ast Nierenberg wrote that husband Marvin, MD ’60, was elected president of the American Psychiatric Association’s New York District branch for the next year. He also teaches at the Psychoanalytic Institute at New York University and has a private practice. Lillian Kalinen Saari wrote that she retired early so that she can join her husband on trips. When home in Evanston, Ill., she enjoys babysitting their three grandsons. Carolyn Sims Watts makes her home in West Yarmouth, Mass. Her daughter, Holly Jean, was married on January 3, 1999. Walter Westhelle has lived in Stamford, Conn., and worked in engineering firms that service Fairfield County, Conn. He retired in 1998 and celebrated twenty-seven years of marriage to his wife, Dee. They have two sons, Walter and Stefan. Jon Wetzel retired last February from Wyeth Ayerst, where he was a research director. He and his wife, Lorri, live on Lake Champlain.

Class of '62

Linda Leffel Landow and her husband, Lloyd, of Dix Hills, N.Y., announced the birth of their third grandchild, Bailey Rose Landow, on July 10, 1999. Bailey is the daughter of their son, Marc, and his wife, Robyn, and the sister of Zachary Abraham. Linda Fasano was elected vice president of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Account-ants. Larry Simino was named director of state parks at the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation.

Class of '63

Lee Cauley Bordas is looking forward to her 40th high school reunion in Pleasantville, N.Y. She wrote from New Bedford, Mass., that the planning committee hopes to welcome UVM President Judith A. Ramaley, Pleasantville High School class of ’59, back as an outstanding member of their class.

Class of '64

Phyllis Perry Morganoff was a member of the Robinson Hall freshman group. She has a doctorate in psychology from Rutgers University and has a practice in two locations: Millstone and Princeton, N.J. Phyllis lives in Somerville, N.J., and is a single parent of a daughter, Danielle, born in 1984. She and her husband have lived in Malibu, Calif., for two years. Their son was recently married. Ruth is coordinator of clinical services for the department of communication disorders and sciences at California State University–Northbridge.

Class of '65

Scott Severance and his wife, Wendy (Skidmore ’65), hosted a mini Sigma Nu reunion at their home on Lake George last June. The Severances recently moved to Utica, N.Y., from Andover, Mass. Scott is director of manufacturing operations with ConMed Corporation.

Class of '66

Ed Kiniry, president of Tubbs Snowshoes of Stowe, Vt., was recently awarded the Small Business Association award for the best small business in Vermont. Susan King Zoia of Marblehead, Mass., recently received the Victim Advocate of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance. Susan is the assistant director of the program in Essex County. Claire Berka Willis hosted a golf outing weekend last May in her home in Newtown, Conn. Attending were Judy Claypoole Stewart, Ken McGuckin, and your class secretary, Kathy McGuckin.

Class of '67

Robert Allen has been appointed president and chief executive officer at C.T. Male Associates, P.C., an engineering firm based in Latham, N.Y. Bob is also a director and shareholder at C.T. Male. Congratulations are also in order to Bob on the marriage of his daughter last March. Bruce Rosen, M.D., wrote that he and his wife, Susan, a psychologist, work together in a group psychiatric practice in Smithtown, Long Island. This fall, their daughter Brooke will be a first-year student at UVM, and their daughter, Jennifer, will start at Stony Brook Medical School.

Class of '68

What a party we had for our 30th reunion with our friends from the classes of ’69 and ’70. At our class election, the following classmates were re-elected for another five-year term: Paul Malone, president, Jeff Kuhman, vice president, and Diane Duley Glew, your class secretary.

Class of '69

We enjoyed a beautiful weekend at UVM June 3-6 when we celebrated our 30th reunion with the classes of ’68 and ’70. You won’t want to miss our 35th reunion because everyone will be getting together again. During the weekend, we elected new officers for our class: Steve Kunken, president, Sally Stewart Hynes, vice president, and Janet Steff Keeler, class secretary. Nancy Eddy has worked at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on the general surgery/vascular floor since 1974. Marilyn Lanou Hindes teaches in an alternative program for learning-impaired students. She lives in Colchester, Vt., and enjoys being a grandparent.
