Class of '90

Chrissy Rieth McGowan and her husband, Mark ‘91, proudly announced the birth of their son, Gregory, on February 5, 2000. Gregory was welcomed by his sister, Madeline, and brother Christopher. John McKernon wrote from San Francisco that he, Peter Talas, Thierry Grabber ‘91, Sam Crockett ‘89, and Lewis Quiroz ‘88 attended Craig Croteau’s wedding. John noted, “Craig had ‘full moon fever’ when he got engaged on a volcano in Maui, and he had it again when he said, ‘I do,’ on a yacht on San Francisco Bay on February 18, 2000. We’re all still in shock.” Steve Krupkin and his wife, Liz, have a new son, Billy, born September 27, 1999. They live in Evanston, Ill. Ruth Henry let us know that Meg Schwartz Smith is the proud new mother of a daughter, Katherine, and that Jeff and Kelly Perez welcomed their new son, Andrew Scott, last December. Erin Fitzgibbons McCallum has a new son, John “Jack” Duncan McCallum IV, born November 11, 1999, who joins his sister, Elizabeth, in the family’s Guilford, Conn., home. Happi Grillon wrote from Philadelphia last April that she was looking forward to seeing everyone at Reunion. Sherri Simmons Ziomek and her husband, Andy, welcomed their first child, Zachary Andrew, in September 1999. Sherri looked forward to getting together with Amy Blumer Badini, Phyllis Kallin Blankoph, and Meg Laferriere Horrocks at Reunion. Richard First took a UVM Ultimate Frisbee club alumni team to a tournament in Hawaii, and they made it to the quarter finals. Team members Scott Mathieu, Tom Hollenbeck ‘89, Jaben Kilbourn ‘93, Spencer Feely ‘93, Evan Nisselson ‘91, Scott Fleming ‘94, Will Richardson, Bryan Chou, Daron Byerly, Keith Austin, Caleb Marriott, Simon Stone, and Rich all had a great time. Justine Bloch and husband Ken and their three-year-old daughter and baby Anna, eight months, live in Arlington, Mass. Toni Salvaggio Rotondo of Redding, Conn, gave birth to a son, Christopher John, on June 15, 1999. She wrote that Susan Gelwick and Lisa Asiaf came for a visit in October, and Lisa Verstandig visited before his arrival She also let us know that Chris Whitney and his wife, Michelle, were married in August 1998, and they all celebrated in Maine. Louisa Murray Preston and husband Chad welcomed their son, Nicholas Murray Preston, into the world on February 5, 2000. Louisa wrote, “With the help of midwives, Nicholas was born at home.” The Prestons enjoy their life in Seattle and plan to stay there until Chad becomes a licensed helicopter pilot.

Class of '91

Grant Gund and his wife, Lara, of Newton, Mass., proudly announced the birth of twins, Laura “Lucy” Blair Gund and Grant Owen Gund on May 11, 2000. Chris and Carolan Knott McAvoy live in Boulder, Colo, where they see Chris Nugent ‘92 and Greg Doubeck. Amy Perler married Anders Strom in Florence, Italy, last April. She had a great reunion at Anne Frisch’s wedding in Minneapolis last March with Marnie Brown Conti, Julia Kasi-Godley, and Kristen Aleksa. Amy does corporate community relations for Cisco Systems; Marnie is a computer instructor in Salt Lake City; Julia recently received her PhD in psychology art in California; Kristin is a consultant, based in Washington, D.C.; and Anne is living in Minneapolis, where she is an office administrator and graphic designer. Timothy Puro, who worked for large advertising agencies in New York and Dallas, recently returned to Vermont to purchase his parents’ coin and jewelry business. He would love to hear from UVM friends by email at puro@vtcoins.com. Suzanne Wright worked as a special events planner for the State of Vermont and Governor Howard Dean after graduating from UVM. She then enrolled in graduate school and received her MA in education. She now is a private tutor for young actors, often traveling with them on location. Rebecca Dix Shepard and her husband live in Wheeling, Ill. They get together in Chicago with Matt Walker, who has a new son, Richard Russell. Anna Liu recently moved back East with her husband and son, Paul. Heather Iorio recently moved back to Vermont, after having lived in Maryland for eight years. She served as an officer in the Army Nurse Corps and then as director of community outreach for two hospital health systems in Maryland. She now is an AmeriCorps Vista member in Burlington, Vt. She and her husband, Michael, a medical student, were married in 1997. Kerry Supple Nelson of Lexington, Mass., wrote that Jeff and Valerie Narins Malsh welcomed their third daughter, Willow Charlie, on October 14, 1999. Jeff and Valerie sent congratulations to Brian Acrish on his wedding. Debbie Howarth recently moved from Connecticut to Massachusetts to accept a new position as regional director of sales and marketing for Nantucket Companies in Foxboro. She sent greetings to Robynn Horr ‘92, David ‘92 and Julie Whalen ‘90 Caterino, Geoff Grove ‘92, Toni Small ‘92 and Jody Colgrove ‘92. Natalie Ribarik Coe married her husband, Kenneth, in Stowe, Vt., in August 1993. She received her PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics from the University of Minnesota in 1999. Her son, Levin Phillip, was born on November 2, 1999. Natalie is a postdoctoral fellow in obesity research at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. Jennifer Lipman Harris of Chappaqua, N.Y., wrote that Julie Kaplan married Robert Kluge in October 1999, and they live in New York City; Sharon Cooper Mogel of Middletown, Conn., welcomed a new son in June 1999; and Jackie Posner Glassman bought a house in Chappaqua, N.Y. Heidi Updegraff married Marc Richards in Rockport/ Gloucester, Mass., on October 23, 1999. Heather Winn, Leslie Carlson, and Amy Updegraff ‘94 were bridesmaids. Heidi and Marc both work in Watertown, Mass. Lisa Dombal and husband Laddie Hunter welcomed their first child, a son, Dylan Hanson Hunter, on March 6, 2000. Stephen Vogt, M.D., accepted a position as an internist at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital in Hood River, Oreg. Ronald Hemenway accepted a two-year teaching position in Japan in April 2000. Michelle Summers Maue lives in St. Louis, Mo. She loves living in the Midwest, especially nature walks with her three-year-old. Michelle works with at-risk adolescents in her role as an intern for a therapist. Adrienne Cannata-Reis was married in June 1999 in Colorado, and she lives, works, and plays in the Vail Valley. She is a nurse clinical coordinator at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic’s orthopedic clinic. She and her husband, Mike, skied in Warren Miller’s latest movie, Fifty. Jody Stainman married David Fredman in November 1999, and they live in Newton, Mass. Jody is a marketing manager at an internet start-up company in Boston. Kiera Murtagh Pfaff wrote that Sue Barone Casey works at Goldman Sachs in New York. She and her husband, David Casey ‘90 welcomed a new daughter, Margaret Loretta Casey, and they live in Garden City, N.Y. Kiera also let us know that Joselyn Halsey Armusewicz and husband Ed welcomed their first son, Jacob Halsey, last December. Kiera and her husband, Andy, celebrated the first birthday of their daughter, Mairead. The family lives in New York City. Nicole Rosenstreich Gorman let us know that Stephen and Nicole Gorman have a daughter, Sophia, who was born on April 6, 1999; Nicole Heaney and Nick Helgesen ‘90 have a son, Jack, who was born in July 1999; and Gabrielle Taft Jensen and husband Neil have a son, Eli, born in November 1999. Robert Kilbourn of Watertown, Mass., completed his master’s degree in mental health counseling in May 2000. Kristen Aleksa of Washington, D.C., wrote that Anne Frisch married Dan Trockman in March 2000, and that she and Julia Kasi-Godley, Amy Perler, and Marnie Brown Conti were in attendance. Valerie Page Elwell and family bought a house near Greensboro, N.C. Valerie, her husband, and two children were excited about a visit to UVM last April. Kelli Rivers Burney spent five years in Richmond, Va., where she earned her MBA degree. She married a fellow Vermonter in Mississippi and obtained her professional human resources certification through the Society for Human Resource Management. Robert Burger let us know that Cesar Murillo and Allison Becker are engaged. Johanna Polsenberg married Warren Nott of North Queensland, Australia, on April 1, 2000. They work together studying the impact of agricultural sediment and nutrient run off in the tropical mangrove estuaries. She expected to complete her PhD this fall. Deborah Zimmerman Ribner and her husband welcomed their first child, Ian Ribner, in December 1999. She also wrote that Elyssa Dolgins Gray and her husband, David, live in San Francisco, where Elyssa works for Visa; Jen Warren Medwin and husband Steve live in Florida; Leslie Sirota Hirsch and her husband, Doug, live on Long Island with their son, Evan; Robin Goldberger O’Keefe and her husband, PJ, and new daughter Morgan live in Miami; Suzanne Mather and husband Chris Stanton have a son Jack, born last February. They were all together at the wedding of Elisa Carapezza and Mike O’Connor last October on Cape Cod. Scott Dodson wrote that his company completed sound designs for parts of the sound lab exhibition for the Gates Foundation’s library grant program. Lisa Barton of Vancouver, Wash., recently caught up with Ann Laber Anders to congratulate her on the birth of her first child, Matthew Luke, born February 21, 2000. Ann and her husband, Matt, live in Frederick, Md. Ken Couture and Ashley Renick G’97 celebrated their marriage on June 24, 2000, on the shore of Lake Champlain with family and friends. Karen Kefauver enjoyed a reunion with Jennifer Ingersolle and her husband, Andrew Wellman, amidst the crowds at the Laguna Classic bicycle races in Monterey, Calif. Karen, who lives in Santa Cruz, was reporting on the event; Jennifer was a spectator; and Andrew was a racer. Sara Munro sent congratulations to Laura Hasforth on the birth of her second child, Morgan. Jennifer Kuney married Chris Poulin on October 2, 1999, and Amy Chamberlin Haines, Wendy Chase Wilson, and Denise Bergeron were her bridesmaids. Jennifer is co-owner of Long Trail Physical Therapy in Burlington. Kristy White Trask gets together with Susan Belmonte Langenheim regularly. Kristy attended Susan’s wedding in September 1999 in Massachusetts. Janet Goulet Warner and her husband, David, of Williston, Vt., wrote that the birth of their second daughter occurred on October 12, 1999, the day that the six billionth baby was born. Janet keeps in touch with Michelle Berger Miller and Tammy Azur via email. Mark Bean recently returned to Northfield, Vt., with his wife, Eileen and sons Patrick and Paul. Mark is general manager of Bean Chevrolet Co, and he invites UVM friends to stop by for hot coffee and good conversation. Mark Newton of Morrisville, Vt., has been “working to help the world’s rowers row better.” He also coaches the People’s Academy boys’ varsity soccer team and is a part-time Stowe police officer. Mark is caring for his son, who recently underwent a bone marrow transplant. Nina Tardy Warren and her husband are raising their children in Burlington, Vt. Nina works at Fletcher Allen Health Care. After graduation, Eric Gilbert worked at Pfizer, where he met his wife. They both went to graduate school in chemistry and obtained their PhDs in chemistry from the University of California at Irvine in 1999. Before starting their jobs at a New Jersey pharmaceutical company, they traveled to Europe. They recently purchased their first home in Scotch Plains, N.J. Deanna Damiano Bastianich, husband Joseph, and daughter Olivia proudly announced the birth of Miles Maxwell Bastianich on January 21, 2000. Jocelyn Griffing is “alive and well living in New York City.” She works for a large web site, running corporate partnerships. Jocelyn keeps in touch with Kevin Lloyd, who lives and works in Boston, doing clinical trials for Biogen. Deanna Furbush Cameron and her husband are busy with their new baby, Megan, who was born in August 1999. Deanna works for the homeless of Burlington as a case manager for COTS. She enjoyed seeing Amy Shackett at Kelly Taft’s wedding last fall. Kristen Larsen Manning gave birth to her daughter, Taylor Glenn, last April. She saw Jen Crapman Kuser and Kate Sheehan Bellaud at Melissa Skehan’s engagement party. Gretchen Carpenter Jones moved to Virginia Beach, Va., while her husband, Chuck, is stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Harry S Truman. Pam Breslow Quinn works as an employee assistance program counselor for the U.S. Senate. She and her husband purchased their first home in Rockville, Md., and they would love UVM visitors. Sharron Roberts Scott and her husband, Philip, of St. Paul, Minn., have a new daughter, Sydney Amelia, who was born in August 1999. Sharron continues to work for Ecolab. Julie Kaplan wrote that Sharon Cooper Mogel and husband Greg have a new son Jordan, born in June 1999, and that Michelle Baez will marry Jason Asche on October 7, 2000. Mark Cahill and his wife, Katherine, worked in Indian health services on a Navajo reservation where their son, Samuel, spent his first year of life. They moved to Wisconsin in 1994 and settled on an old farm with their son and new daughter, Mairin. Mark is currently nursing on the heart team in the OR at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Kristyna Niemi Meyer and her husband of Alexandria, Va., announced the birth of their second daughter, Sophia Meyer, on July 6, 1999. Russ Clark of Washington, D.C., visited Tom Gubbins ‘92 and his fiancée, Jen Hatch, in Lovell, Maine. They were busy boiling sugar maple sap during part of the visit. Amy Newton married Phillip Benton, and they live in Fort Collins, Colo. She sent the following news: Kimberly Roberts Magonet and husband Michael live
in Toronto, Canada, with their daughters, Alexandra, and Jara; Jennifer Spofford Sanger and husband Penn live on Fishers Island, N.Y.; and Heather Lawes married Matthew Stone in Salt Lake City. Tammy Lyn Greenwood-Stewart married her husband, Patrick, in Flagstaff, Ariz., last September. She has been living in Ocean Beach, Calif., since 1997. Her second novel, Nearer than the Sky, was published by St. Martin’s Press last August. Tammy Lyn keeps in touch with Janet Dunphy and Willow Older. Gayle Seidman Seletz and husband Jay moved to a new home in Framingham, Mass. They enjoyed a get together with Elizabeth Katz and Leticia Munoz. Gayle participated in Boston’s Avon Breast Cancer three-day, 66-mile walk in June. Camille Blanchet works in student affairs at the University of Kentucky, where she received her master’s degree in secondary education. She visited Steve Rosell in Los Angeles and traveled to northern California to attend Claire O’Brien’s marriage to John Josef. Camille also wrote that Kathy Purdy Goldberg and her husband, Dave, have a new son, Colin. Ann Laber Anders and her husband, Matt, purchased a home in Frederick, Md., where they live with their new son, Luke. Ann is taking courses to earn an administration certificate so that when she returns to work she can be an elementary school administrator. Jeffrey Aber completed the New York City Marathon in 1999, his first, along with Curtis Picard, who was competing in his second marathon. Michael Urbano graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in May 2000. He started his residency in internal medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Michael would like to hear from Andy Paterson and Todd Miller. Richard Tierney hosts a weekly rockabilly radio show on KRUX in Las Cruces, N. Mex. Monica Kissane and husband Rock Nadeau of Jericho, Vt., are the grandparents of Kevin Alexander, who was born on February 6, 2000. Joseph Reichert is building a house in Talkeetna, Alaska. Kimberly Ayers Campbell and husband Tim announced the birth of their daughter, Laurel, in March. Kimberly stays home with her children and spends time with her good friend, Lisa Bernardini, who lives nearby. John Niles started in a PhD program in Berkeley. He ran into Key Compton ‘92, who runs his own company, Solbright. John also heard from Andy Gale in Port Townsend, Wash. He hopes that anyone involved in VSTEP will look him up in San Francisco. Jennifer Hagerman of Beverly, Mass., was selected to travel to Tunisia to deliver the “Gift of Sight” to nearly 15,000 people thanks to Lenscrafters/Luxotica and the Lions Club. Elizabeth Bonn Scharf and husband Jonathan ‘90 of Cambridge, Mass., welcomed a their son, Ethan Charles, into the world on February 15, 2000. Anya Boyd Koutras and her husband, John, live in Danvers, Mass. Anya wrote that her friend, Jen Bame Rettew, and her husband, David, of Waltham, Mass., have a new son, Jackson, born February 27, 2000, and that Toby Kahan and Sarah Barnet of Jericho, Vt., adopted their son, Benjamin last year. Kathleen Tomczak Kent was thrilled at the birth of her first child, Hailey, in February 1999. She is taking time off to be home with her daughter, while her husband recently became e-services director for Docu Corp International in Atlanta. Pamela Loomar attended the wedding of Elan Chambers Sherman and husband Michael in September 1997. Elan stood up for Pamela at her wedding at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel in Hawaii in April 2000. Pamela also noted that Stephanie Powers Sahesian has a beautiful baby girl named Madeline Ann, born December 18, 1999. Marla Capossela of Marshall, Mich., has taught in an Edison School, which uses a progressive research-based curriculum. She has also served as the school’s writing curriculum coordinator and lead teacher. Claudia Welch of Albuquerque, N. Mex., is a doctor of Oriental medicine, practicing acupuncture and offering complementary care for cancer patients alongside oncology practices. Amy Maillet Wheeler and her husband, Stephen, recently returned to Vermont after eight years. Amy is a full-time mom to their son, Jed, and Steve is manager of engineering at Tivoly, Inc. Pamela Chase Paradee and husband Troy ‘92 welcomed their second son, Samuel Chase, into the world on March 20, 2000. Danette Colella, MD, completed her residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital in Boston, and she is a general pediatrician in Norwell, Mass. Michelle Richards spent winter 2000 in Mexico doing massage. She returned to Montana for a summer of massage, kayaking, hiking, and fun. Kimberly Baker Durfee and her husband, who live in North Clarendon, Vt., recently got together with Maura Gilligan, who lives in Boston. Geoff Schuppert earned his MFA in acting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He works for the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival. Trudy Potter DeVivo and husband Joe announced the birth of their third son, Christian, born on May 24, 2000. His big brothers, Michael and Joey, enjoy having him around the family’s Ridgefield, Conn., home very much. Ki Bassett and her husband, Kevin Moeller, live in Santa Fe, N. Mex., with their dog, Phoebe, in a spacious adobe house in the countryside. Ki is working toward yoga certification in Iyengar and ashtanga yoga. Kevin is a graphic designer with Outside Magazine. Ki sent greetings to Rachel, Melissa, Elissa, Sam, and especially Jeanne Lawrence. Todd Miller and his wife, Kate, enjoyed a visit with Blake VanMeter in Portland, Oreg., which included rain, waterfalls, and volcanoes. They met up with Cate Mayers (‘88) Brent for some rafting in Colorado, and they still hang out with Marsha Kellogg.

Class of '92

Sheila Mehta wrote that she was married to Brian Green in October. Several alumni were in attendance, including Melissa Bergen, a bridesmaid, and Heather Renick, Diedra Fleming and Debby Dyson, who also participated in the ceremony. Ellen Hinteregger (‘90) Knowles, Jane Caron (‘91) Kimble, Lauren Polenofsky Garfield, Keelin Smith Dawe, Mark Moore, Holly Ripley ‘93, Barbara Rezza ‘93, Tracy Person ‘93, and Neela Patel ‘93 were all there as guests. Sheila is currently an account executive at NewsEdge Corporation in Massachusetts, while she finishes her PhD at Northeastern University. Wendy Burt is living in Colorado Springs, where she writes for magazines, newspapers, and Web sites. Her book, Party of One: The Single Chick’s Guide to Solo Fun, will be out this fall. When she’s not glued to her Mac, she spends her time playing with her two black Labs, teaching, writing, and bragging about Vermont to anyone who will listen. Gabe Gries has just accepted a position as a fish ecologist with the U.S. Geological Service in the biological resources division. He works in Turners Falls, Mass., at the Conde Anadromous Fish Research Center. Gabe has a new baby girl to go along with his son, who is almost four. Cathy Hwang let us know what she and her husband, Jerome Spencer, have been doing since graduation. Jerome received his master’s degree in Russian literature from Purdue University, then went on to law school at Georgetown and graduated cum laude in 1997. He is now a prosecutor in Maryland. Cathy works for the office of the general counsel of a national trade association. Keelin Smith Dawe and her husband, Joe, welcomed their first child, George Forrest IV, on June 12, 2000. Mom and baby are doing fine. Keelin completed her MBA from Suffolk University in September 1999, and she is now enjoying parenthood. She keeps in touch with Deb Dyson and Eric Patel ‘91 on a regular basis. Keelin sends a big hello to Stacey Bossick Zouck and Teresa Cuesta and asks where are you now. She hopes to see them at our 10th reunion next year. Keelin wrote that Deb Dyson is currently in Singapore on assignment from her job at IBM. She is doing lots of sightseeing and sending regular updates as she travels around. Kathleen O’Neill wrote that in November 1999, she went to Aruba for a reunion with Kathy Liberatori Whittaker, Shelley Morin, and Lesley Leonard. Jay Czelusniak wrote that he is working hard but still finding time to see his UVM friends, Ted Rich, who welcomed a new son on St Patrick’s Day. Jay went to Costa Rica with Nate Beck, Crawford Hubbard, and Ned Crosby last February. He also played golf in Florida with Jaidip Chanda, John Newton, and Matt Pezzulich. Donna Stone wrote that she is now living in Louisville, Kent., and enjoying the warm weather as well as the Derby. She still works for GE in their human resources area. Donna went skydiving for the first time last June, and she highly recommends it to others. Andy Gale and his wife own and operate PT Outdoors, a sea kayak company in Port Townsend, Wash. They started the guiding company in 1997, and they rent boats and give lessons and guided tours. Tom Gubbins proposed to Jennifer Hatch last January in Acadia National Park, and she accepted. They plan to marry in Bridgton, Maine, on June 16, 2001.

Class of '93

Carol Samuels is a physical therapist, working in New York. She received her master’s degree in physical therapy last May. Pamela Adams has been working as a labor and delivery nurse at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C., since graduation. She received her master’s degree in nursing in nurse-midwifery from East Carolina University last May. Lynn Laferriere Madigan and husband Kyle are enjoying life in Northern California, taking advantage of all the recreational opportunities. Lynn is a staff nurse in the emergency department at UC Davis Medical Center, and Kyle is a flight nurse for a non-profit air ambulance. Lynn would love to hear from her UVM friends. Russell and Stephanie Curry (‘94) Bartels live in Michigan with their year-old son, Parker. Patrick Guinness has been living in Denver for the past four years, “enjoying the sun that shines more than 300 days a year.” Mark Mangan developed the website netsgoods.com, which he operates with the help of his brother, Mike ‘90. The site is full of “all kinds of cool and trendy things, great gifts as well as tempting items for self-indulgence.” They were featured in MSNBC’s top 10 online shopping sites for 1999 as well as in the Best of New York, Vogue, and In Style.

Class of '94

Over the summer, I relocated from Boston to upstate New York. I now live in Saratoga Springs and work as a chemist at GE’s corporate research and development site in Niskayuna, N.Y. Please note that my new email address is wicht@crd.ge.com. If you emailed me news for class notes over the summer and it does not appear in this column, please send it to me again. I will be sure to get it in the next issue. Also, I would enjoy getting in touch with any other UVM alumni in the Saratoga and/or capital region. Before leaving Boston, I had the pleasure of celebrating with other UVMers at a party honoring the graduation of Jeremy Watson. Albeit six years after the fact, it was quite a celebration. Those alumni in attendance included Beth McDermott, Erin Gurry, Sam Weber, and Tyler Zapton ‘96. Over the summer, our fearless leader Narric Rome checked in from Los Angeles, where he worked at the Democratic National Convention. Unfortunately, despite his theatric efforts, he was not cast in either “Spin City” or “The West Wing.” He has since returned to New York City to finish his graduate program in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. Don’t give up the dream, Narric! In other political news, Sherman Parker has been working in Missouri politics with both Senator Kit Bond and Senator John Ashcroft. Currently, he is working for U.S. Congressman Jim Talent, a Missouri Republican candidate for governor. “Don’t be surprised to see my name on a Missouri ballot soon,” wrote Sherman. Muffy Lane wrote from Telluride, Colo., and filled me in on the other ‘94 UVM alumni in attendance at Perry Fatuova’s wedding: Jon Bennis, Greg Finkel, Brian Gibbs, Tara Carradino, Beck Shatles, Mara Young, Deb Morris, Eric Morris, Arty Ettinger, Tim O’Brien, Abby O’Brien, Tim Williamson, Jay Murphy, Jody Hauser, Ed Bien, Drew Shimomura, Pete Vanderpot, and Jill Vanderpot. “It was an outstanding weekend of love and laughter,” wrote Muffy. She also sent updates on others from the class of ‘94. Eric Rickstad published his first novel last winter, entitled Reap. Muffy said it was outstanding and suggests that everyone read this one. Chris Kimble spent the summer in New Zealand teaching skiing. Jennifer Gledhill rang in the new year with Muffy in Telluride. Lynn Parker completed her master’s of public health degree at the University of Hawaii last May. She now is living in New Mexico and working at Indian Health Service as a dietitian. After UVM, Bonnie Kittredge went back to school and received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Boston University, and she is now working as a physical therapist and personal trainer. Bonnie is still great friends with Jose Toirac ‘93, who also lives in Boston. She keeps in touch with Jody Seigartel ‘93 and Kenny Shulklapper ‘93. Bonnie was married in September, and Lori Goldberg (‘93) Gleeman was one of her bridesmaids. She wrote that it’s always nice to run into familiar faces in Boston and Nantucket. Rich Bettencourt and his wife, Laini, announced the birth of their daughter, Madison Jane, on November 30, 1999. He wrote that by April, Madison was finally sleeping through the night. Rich and his family live in Kensington, Md., outside of Washington, D.C. Matt Gildenhorn lives in Chicago and has been working as a sales consultant at Oracle Corporation for the past four years. Andrea Noel-Doubleday lives in Deerfield, Mass., with her husband, Michael. She is the director of physical therapy services at an outpatient clinic in Northampton, Mass. Michael teaches at the Eaglebrook School with UVMers Christopher and Kristen Loftus. Andrea has started running in marathons, including this year’s Boston Marathon. Holly Buckland was married to Collin Parker, her “one true love,” at Stowe Community Church in Vermont last June. Her father, Hollis Buckland ‘50, and her brother, David Buckland ‘97, walked her down the aisle. Fellow alumni Beth Zimmerman Voellm and Andy Voellm attended the ceremony as well as recent grads Erica Augenstein ‘00 and Greg Lewis ‘99 and current student Rebecca Sexton ‘02. Several faculty and staff members from the College of Education and Social Services were also in attendance. Holly completed her master’s degree in education at UVM in 1998. She has worked as the technology coordinator for the College of Education and Social Services at UVM since 1997. Collin works for WPTZ news in Colchester, and they live in Essex Junction, Vt. Michelle Demers (‘95) Huse graduated from Rutgers University with an MBA degree in marketing. She and her husband, Greg, are living in New Jersey and running their own business, called Frontier Forestry Consulting Services. They recently celebrated their first year in business and their one-year wedding anniversary. Randy Huey lives in Austin, Tex., and works in marketing at Dell Computers. He received his MBA degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Randy was married to Tavivalaya Meksawan last June. Terence Bock is a national account manager for EMC Corporation in New York City. He has been with EMC for five years. Terence will marry Kerry Kelly of Medfield, Mass., in October. Craig Rothenberg was married in June 1999, and he and his wife, Maryellen, live in Bedford, N.H. He recently moved to New Hampshire to join a group dental practice in Derry. He maintains a general practice within the group. Kerri Dee is currently finishing up her second year of graduate school in social work at Portland State University.

Class of '95

Missy Corlett wrote that a lot has happened since graduation. She sent lots of news about classmates: Whitney Cooley Bellingham and her husband, Jason, have a daughter Olivia, who turned two in January; Lucy McConnell continues to work for American Express in New York City; Rebecca Balchunas is a buyer for Bloomingdale’s By Mail; Jen Buckley, a working force behind The Wedding List, shares her daily grind with Samantha Jones O’Brien, who makes sure that “all the beautiful women in New York City get just the right piece of crystal for their dinner tables;” Alix Krinsky Gruber and Sara Kanouff have headed West and now live in Denver; Mandy Shepard Brookes, husband Ryse, and daughter Berkeley now live in San Francisco; and Gretchen Whittier, also in San Francisco, enjoys a steady diet of Rice-A-Roni and Anchorsteam Beer and snowboarding every chance she gets. As for Missy, she’s disappointed that she did not win the Big Lottery Game in Georgia. Jennifer Hughes moved from San Francisco to Manhattan last June. She is a production associate at HBO in their small documentary department, and she hopes to be an independent filmmaker. Adam Shapiro is in the San Francisco Bay area, working for an internet start-up company. He enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, and camping and all that San Francisco has to offer. Edward Boettcher of Burlington, Vt., started skysummit.com in November 1999 to provide internet, intranet, and extra net business solutions for companies with large annual revenue. Andrea Godfrey, a physical therapist in Somerville, Mass., planned to marry in August 2000. Tracy Fields has been living in San Diego with fellow UVMers Jill Stoddard, Hallie Putterman, and, until recently, Heather Avery. Tracy is an NICU RN at UCSD Medical Center. She spent several months last fall in Costa Rica learning Spanish and traveling, and she is currently training for the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. Jill is in graduate school for clinical psychology at San Diego State, and Hallie is in sales for California Closets. Lucy McConnell has been living in New York City since graduation. She works at American Express in the marketing department for small business services. John Russell teaches world history, geography, and environmental science and coaches skiing and rock climbing at a small boarding school in Kent, Conn., his alma mater.

I met my fiancé, Jonathan Peters, in Seattle, although he recently moved to Dallas, Tex., where he works at Ensemble Studios as a computer game programmer on Age of Empires III. The wedding is planned for July 7, 2001, after which I may be leaving Seattle for the sunnier Dallas weather. Amy Dorta has spent the last few years in Aspen, Nantucket, and San Francisco. She spent the beginning of 2000 traveling in Western Europe. Steven Gauck wrote that he joined the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., and “had to (peacefully) arrest a long-time Vermont friend protesting the IMF/World Bank in April 2000.” Kevin Hoskins started working at Mass MoCa (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) in North Adams just before its opening day in May 2000. Jessica Utter gave birth to her second baby daughter, Grace Kaelin, on March 2, 2000, in Bennington, Vt. Her first daughter, Mackenzie, was born on June 26, 1998, in Brattleboro, Vt. William Hopper has been living in Massachusetts since graduation and has spent the last two years working at an environmental consulting firm in Boston. Jody Citrano sent greetings to Krista Valentino and Christie Casey. Erin Bradley has been involved in residential real estate sales in Charlotte, N.C., where they market especially to young professionals. Rufus Chaffee is working and trying to make an independent film. Lisa Golding is attending medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Geri Witalec received the Cynthia Leboutillier Teachership Award in 1999 for outstanding contributions in her field. Sean Madden is an education specialist on board the Hudson River sloop Clearwater. He “teaches thousands about the wonders of the Hudson River.” Tiffany Gardner Lawrence was married to Brandon Lawrence ‘97 on July 29, 2000. Mark Kohn recently went to Jackson Hole, Wyo., to ski with Danna Lieber, Nina Sisselman and Chris Weiss. Mark wrote that Rich Rosenberg is working at Arthur Andersen; Mike Hoffman is finishing law school at Cardoza this year; Mark Robertson works at Paine Webber and was recently transferred to San Francisco. (Mark was rated three out of 2,000 marketing specialists in his line of work. Congratulations, Mark!) Krista Greenstein is living in Brookfield, Conn., with her husband, Bret, and two children, Ben and Emily. She currently is at home with her children, but she is looking forward to returning to nursing in the future. Anne DuRoss has a daughter, Taylor, who is four. Her husband, Frank, teaches science to students in seventh through ninth grade. Melissa Kaselitz is in San Francisco, where she sees Elena Coco, Amy Scanlon, Simone Scott, Jeff Walsh, Adam Maxfield, and Megera Dourly. Megan Sandy just purchased a home in Jackson, Wyo., and she has been spending her time skiing, kayaking, entering triathlons, mountain biking, etc. Catherine Whitmore works at Forrester Research with five other UVM grads: Sarah Pitlak, Chris Homer, Jill Hamilton, Amanda West, and Trisha Landry. Jen Machamer was married in September 1999, and she is attending nursing school. She is looking forward to getting in touch with Bruce Adams, Samantha Camera-Smith, Jenn Jett, Julie O’Donnell, and Kate Baron. Lauri Coulombe has been accepted into several PhD programs in the states, and she is in the process of seeing which will offer full funding, in which case she’ll return to the U.S. for her doctoral work. For now, she’s in Germany. Jonathan Guiffre wrote that his good friend, Kevin Twombly, and Kevin’s fiancé, Heather Lewis, have sold all their major material goods to fund a 12-month cross-country (and back) trek on skateboards and roller blades. They managed to get a sponsorship from Vans and Rollerblade. They intend to begin soon, taking a Northern route West and a Southern route back East. Katherine McCann recently went whale watching in California with fellow UVM alums in the Los Angeles area. After living in Vermont for the past decade, Jessica Jonas moved to New York City after taking biochemistry at St. Michael’s College in the fall of 1999. She has interviewed at Brandeis in hopes of being accepted into their genetic counseling programs. Jessica sent greetings to her fellow PT grads. Anna Norgren made her debut along with her competition at the women’s hammer throwing in the Summer 2000 Olympics. Wendy Cloutier bought a new house in Jericho, Vt., in October 1999. She has been having fun landscaping and decorating. Wendy works in nursing. Tara Aspinall is a “snowboard bum” with Becki Sprague, Deborah Savino, and Heather Hodgeson, all living in Colorado. Leah Brown recently moved to a beautiful condo in New Hampshire with three cats and one dog. Jason Geller lives in Brookline, Mass. He began an evening law school program at Suffolk University in Boston in August. Paula Jo Cronk is married and recently welcomed her first child, Austin Christopher. She wrote that Kathy Quealy also is married and is attending medical school in Florida. Nina Barber wrote that Emily Calvert and her boyfriend live in Boston. Emily is working at Arnold Communications. Nina also wrote that Anna Plant is living in Miami, Fla., and working as a nurse. As for Nina, she has been living in New York City for nearly three years, and she recently completed a seven-week road trip for the Census Bureau. Aaron Rudnicki graduated with an MA degree in psychology from SUNY Buffalo last year, and he is now pursuing his PhD in social psychology at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Jill Cohen was engaged to Richard Gent in September 1999, and they plan to be married in October 2000. Jill and her new husband will be moving to Cleveland, Ohio, where Jill will look for a new job. Rich’s roommate, Dana Niles, was also engaged in September 1999 and was married to Nancy Olsson in September 2000. Jill also wrote that Jonathan Alden and Cheryl Cote are back together. Lisa Acardi lives on Newbury Street in Boston and is responsible for sales and marketing for the Harpoon Brewery. She will be running in her first marathon, the New York City Marathon, in November. Lisa wrote that Tom Candee lives in Connecticut and is working for a software development company. Allison Bush is moving back to New England to work out of a lab in Durham, N.H. Mark Freda wrote that Carl Fisher and William Webb ‘97 will be moving to Aspen, Colo., to join him this summer. Christopher Hansen has received his master’s degree in history, and he is currently completing his second year of law school. He was married in June 1998. Jenny Joyce is currently seeking a master’s degree in secondary education at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash. She wrote that Beth Wagner and Andy Boutin were married on August 14, 1999, and they moved back to Vermont from Seattle in March 2000. Deborah Savino wrote that she, Heather Hodgson, Jamie Ponce, Tara Aspinall, and Becki Sprague are all living in Colorado and enjoying Vail Mountain. Kristin Miller is working towards her master’s degree in reading at the University of New Hampshire in addition to teaching eighth grade American history. She was married in July 2000. Jamie Nichols was married on June 4, 1999; Sarah Miner, Karyn Yaffee, Melissa Lynch ‘00, Leigh Lamphere ‘99, Marci Wheeler ‘92, and Dan Latkin ‘92 were all in attendance. Jamie also wrote that Jen Chapman had a son, Ryan Fitzgerald, on June 24, 1999, in Annapolis, Md. Dawn Symonaitis wrote that Danielle Desrosiers was married in September 1999. Elana Novack is doing an internship at West School in New Canaan, Conn. She has her initial elementary certification and master’s in teaching. Kristin McCall received her MBA from Seton Hall University in May 1999. In October, she moved to Long Island to take a job as assistant traffic manager in the Newman’s Own department of Advantage Food Marketing. David Marks wrote that Jon Napoli met him in New Jersey to share insight into the future of the hemp industry. Jon has a hemp store on Newbury Street in Boston called The Hempest, and David has a skin care line called hemp works. Amy Hebert was married to Mark Merrill on September 16, 2000. Steven Maestas is currently involved in starting a business (to open in 2001) specializing in financial, health, dental, payroll, tax, and human resource software. Sybil Sumner Mitchell was married on May 27, 2000, to Patrick Mitchell. Patrick works at IBM; he is attending Vermont Technical College, and Sybil works at Green Mountain Florist Supply, Inc. They live in Burlington. Sybil keeps in touch with Antonia Ziegler Fiksdalstrand, who was married to Tom Fiksdalstrand in June 1997. They have a baby boy, Dillon Thomas, who was born in December 1998. Antonia has been teaching at an international school in Norway since getting married there, but she and her family were planning to move back to Vermont in July 2000. Sybil also wrote that Steph Pettis is getting married in May 2001 to Sandi Sumner (Sybil’s brother). She teaches in Londonderry, Vt., and Sandi works at the Equinox in Manchester. Will Nefzger graduated from Loyola University School of Law in May 2000. Jim Higgins, Liam Spain, and Sean “Chopper” Callahan ‘97 were in attendance. Will noted, “It was Chopper’s first time in the Big Easy, but Jim and Liam were somewhat like fixtures, having visited together twice before. A grand time was had by all as we visited some of the finer establishments in the Crescent City. Laissez le bon temps rouler. “ Will also wrote that Govinda Sumberg also visited several times during his stint in New Orleans when business brought her there. Will returned home to Kentucky, where he studied for the Kentucky Bar Exam in July. He is seeking employment in Kentucky or Washington, D.C. While at school, he made the Law Review (top 10 percent of his class), and he recently published an article in the Loyola Law Review. Vanessa Khouri Smith graduated in 1998 from UVM’s communication sciences graduate program and has joined Deborah Huhn Morris ‘94 at Summit Speech Therapy Associates in Charlotte, Vt. Vanessa and Deborah provide speech language services through a variety of agencies to children and adults in Chittenden, Addison, and Grand Isle Counties. Derek Frederickson recently switched jobs and is now working for Lehman Brothers in New York City as a business analyst in their fixed income technology area. John Rudick wrote that he is a partner in a company that consults with e-commerce and internet development companies on their growing staff needs. He is living in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and his high school sweetheart visits him from Brooklyn on weekends. John loves mountain biking in the mountains near his home. Jamie Murphy is a fourth-year veterinary student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She anticipates graduating next spring. Greetings, class of 1999! I actually have some exciting updates for you this time around. Please keep them coming. On July 8, Mary Vadnais married Jason Berger in Killington, Vt. Congratulations to the newlyweds! Roger Cummins is working for Bloomberg Financial markets in New York City. He hasn’t strayed too far from home, and is still hanging around with the same old crew: Chris Penn, Neil Smaldon, and Keith Stephan. Keith is working for Chase Manhattan and is currently on a project in San Francisco. So, if you are in the Bay area, look him up. It’s good to hear that some things never change. Chirag Vyas (“Cheech” to most of us) is also out in the Bay area working for Lockheed Martin as a contractor for NASA. He is working as an experiment support scientist, managing several life science experiments that will fly aboard the space shuttle. His special project is scheduled to launch on September 8 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Cheech is making us proud out there. Bethany Desautel is working in Boston for Prudential but will be starting school at Lesley College in the fall to get her master’s and teaching certificate. Sara Gorham will also be headed back to school, where she will be doing a four-year program for nurse midwifery. Keep up the good work and hit the books. Alexa Pearson is living in Mesa, Ariz., working at the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office (aka the morgue), where she is taking tissue samples and then preparing slides for the pathologists. Anja Pearson is teaching children English and environmental education with the Peace Corps in Kazakhstan. The Pearson girls are sure making their way out there. Laura Riccio has a wonderful job at Oyster Software. She loves living in Berkeley, Calif., and she is hoping to pursue an MA degree in mathematics soon.
