Board of Directors Meeting - 9/13/02

Members Present: Judy Corey, Claudia Vanderborght, Gail Hall, Gay
Craig, Dave White, and Roni Donnenfeld. President elect, Gail Hall presided
over the meeting.
Treasureršs Report:
Discussion: Judy Corey
presented the September report to the Board. Membership fees are being
deposited as they come in.
Action: Judy will continue
her excellent accounting.
Minutes:
Discussion: Board
Members received the August minutes and a VSTA membership form via e-mail.
Action: Cassie and Gay
will continue to problem solve concerning Cassiešs e-mail.
Pathways Conference December 2 & 3, 2002 at the Lake Morey Inn,
Fairlee, VT
Discussion: Board
members reviewed the workshop schedule for the conference. There is an
excellent selection this year for all levels and the workshops are scheduled to
allow people to follow interest areas without conflicts. Science literacy,
which is a focus at the state level, will be available for all levels. The
dinner on the evening of Dec.2 is of primary interest to administrators but
will be open to all interested attendees. Lake Morey Inn will have rooms
available for those wishing to stay overnight but the individual conference
attendees must make reservations.
Action: The Board will
help with preparing participant folders and brochures when these materials are
available. David White will investigate dinner reservations and room
reservations for the Board members.
Newsletter Editoršs
Report:
Discussion: Cassie has
a new edition on her desktop just about ready to go so any last minute items
need to be sent to her immediately.
Action: The names of
the VSTA officers for the upcoming year and the date of the annual meeting,
November 22 at 5 PM at the VISMT offices in Dillingham Hall will be printed in
the newsletter. The 2002 2003 Officer slate: President: Gail Hall, President
Elect: Claudia Vanderborght, Vice President: ____, Treasurer: Judy Corey, and
Secretary: Gay Craig.
Membership Report:
Discussion: The Board
decided to send a letter to past members along with their membership renewal
form.
Action: Gay Craig will
send Cassie a set of mailing labels for the newsletter. Judy Corey will send
Gay a copy of the member letter. Gay will send the letter and a membership
renewal form to last yearšs members.
Vermont Presidential
Award:
Discussion: David
White announced that Gail Hall, Marc Chabot, and Heather Bishop are this yearšs
awardees. Congratulations to all!
Action: The board will
honor the awardees at the Pathways Conference luncheon at Lake Morey Inn in
December and give them a plaque. David White will organize the ceremony.
No Child Left Behind
Legislation:
Discussion: David
White described the progress being made at the state level on grade level
expectations for science. The next step will be the development of a process
for reviewing the expectations.
Action: The VSTA will
have members participate in the oversight and review process of grade level
expectations.
