Six great reasons to return for Homecoming & Reunion Weekend 2012

More than one hundred different activities and events are on tap for the festivities from October 5 to 7. But we whittled it down to six particularly compelling reasons why youíll want to be in Burlington for the weekend. And then thereís Vermont in autumn; OK, seven great reasons. 1. Welcome to Campus Tent Party, Friday, October 5, 6-9 p.m.Tent, Davis Center and Bailey-Howe Library green
Meet your classmates, students, and friends at the tent to enjoy music, appetizers, and cash bars. Find your class table to mingle with past peers, dance the night away with your family, and celebrate a night on campus. Use the photo booth to make memories. Stop by the tent after you register.

2. Sightsee by Segway, Friday and Saturday throughout the day. Tour begins at Catamount statue by Royall Tyler Theatre and Reunion Tent
Embark on a unique, one-hour, guided group tour of campus from the platform of your very own Segway. A brief introduction and training will be provided before the tour. Ages twelve to adult, weight limit of 250 pounds. Limit six per session. Register beforehand on the Reunion & Homecoming registration site ($50 fee)

3. 40 Years of Title IX Celebratory Brunch, Saturday, October 6, 9:30 a.m.Davis Center, Livak Ballroom
"Honoring the Past, Inspiring Our Future" takes a look back at Vermont Women's Athletics and how Title IX has had an impact on the university's history, while paving the way for the future both at UVM and nationally. Prior to our keynote speaker, Barbara Ann Cochran '78, please join us as female student-athletes from the pre-Title IX era receive their varsity certificates. 4. Title IX Speaker Barbara Ann Cochran '78, Saturday, October 6, 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Davis Center, Silver Maple Ballroom
Barbara Cochran, 1972 Olympic gold medalist in slalom, is a member of the famous "Skiing Cochrans" family, which has operated a small ski area in Vermont since 1961. The family has placed several generations of athletes on the U.S. Ski Team (including Barbara Ann, brother Bob Cochran '77, Marilyn Cochran '79, Lindy Cochran '82, niece Jessica Kelley, nephews Jimmy Cochran, Roger Brown, Tim Kelley '14, Robby Kelley and son Ryan Cochran-Siegle. Her father, Mickey Cochran '48, was a longtime coach, coaching Smugglerís Notch Ski Club youngsters, the University of Vermont Ski Team and the U.S. Ski Team. Cochran now lives in Starksboro,Vermont, working hard on her own business, Golden Opportunities in Sports, Business and Life, which teaches people how to handle the pressures of competition, work, academics and any other obstacles that life throws their way. 5. UVM Fest, Saturday, October 6, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.Tent and green between Davis Center and Bailey-Howe Library
Join the tradition. Bring your family and gather with friends for live music, activities, fun, food vendors, and cash bars. Use the rock climbing wall, get your face painted, take pictures in the photo booth and grab lunch from your favorite UVM food vendors. Interact with more than forty student groups and many local businesses Growing Vermont will be featuring many Vermont entrepreneurs. Get a free hot dog or popcorn with your Reunion & Homecoming button!

6. 2012 Homecoming A Cappella Concert, Saturday, October 6- 8 p.m. Ira Allen Chapel. Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for general admission
Some tickets will be reserved for sale at the door starting at 7 p.m., but these tickets go fast. It is best to buy them online, as the show will sell out. Concert includes performances by The Top Cats, Cat's Meow and Hit Paws. Register beforehand on the Reunion & Homecoming registration site ( $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students.)
