Project Overview

Determine the health and status of Diapensia lapponnica on the summit of Mt. Mansfield to determine if this highly cold tolerant plant has been affected by climate change.

Objectives

To examine and measure three well-defined subpopulations of D. lapponnica on the summit of Mt. Mansfield for slope of ground beneath the cushions, aspect, soil depth, cushion area and damage, number and identity of associated species, and number of flowers. To compare the populations for two consecutive years, provide a status report of the population in 2001 including health, and assemble and assess the widely scattered research into the taxonomy and life history of D. lapponnica.
