Read the latest report from the paired study of undeveloped and developed water catchments on the eastern slopes of Mt. Mansfield. Jointly funded by the US Geological Survey and the VMC, this monitoring effort is capturing differences in the effects of ski area development on stream flows in forested basins. In the most recent water year, the overall differential in flow from the two catchments was lower than average, but differences in the timing of peak flow were still evident, likely from the effects of withdrawals for snowmaking and the different melting rates of compacted and non-compacted snow.
