Elected to the board by the self-perpetuating board March 9, 2012. Term expires in March 2018. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts. Educated at St. Michael’s College, BA, 1970; UVM College of Medicine, MD, 1974. Dr. Gamelli is currently Professor Emeritus, Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University Chicago after having retired in October 2014 as the Senior Vice President and Provost of Health Sciences, Loyola University Chicago and The Robert J. Freeark Professor of Surgery, Director, Burn & Shock Trauma Research Institute and Chief, Burn Center at Loyola University Medical Center. Previously held the positions of Dean, Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University Chicago; Senior Vice President; Chairman, Department of Surgery, Loyola University Medical Center; Professor of Surgery; Director, Surgical Research Laboratories, Department of Surgery; Vice Chair, Department of Surgery at UVM College of Medicine. Currently, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Burn Care & Research; Past President-International Society of Burn Injuries; Senior Member, American Board of Surgery; Member of American Burn Association, American College of Surgeons, Medical Advisory Board of Shriners Hospital for Children and other organizations. Most recently, Dr. Gamelli received the Inaugural Catamount Surgeon Award presented by the UVM Larner College of Medicine, Department of Surgery. Dr. Gamelli was awarded the American Burn Association Lifetime Achievement Award in April 2015 and also received an honorary degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in September 2015 at a ceremony in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2013, Dr. Gamelli was awarded the Stritch Medal from the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University Chicago. He also received the President’s Leadership Award from the American Burn Association. Recipient of the 2010 Harvey Stuart Allen Distinguished Service Award from the American Burn Association, 2002 Faculty Member of the Year-Loyola University Chicago, 2002 Saint Michael’s College Academic Hall of Fame-Saint Michael’s College and the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award from the College of Medicine University of Vermont in 2000. He is married to Mary and has 3 daughters Amy (Steven), Andrea (Dennis), and Liza (UVM, 2006); grandsons Jacob and Henry; and granddaughter Hannah.
