GENERAL PARKING INFORMATION
Vehicles used to provide services to the campus infrastructure or respond to campus emergencies require access to regular parking spaces, service vehicle spaces, and campus multiuse paths designated for emergency vehicle access.
The University, by virtue of our size, requires individuals use vehicles to provide services throughout campus on a daily basis. In most cases, these vehicles are owned by the University and provided to employees for the purposes of performing job-related functions. In some, though rare cases, individuals are asked to use personal vehicles to provide service or respond to emergencies.
In either case, vehicles used to provide services to the campus infrastructure or respond to campus emergencies will have access to regular parking spaces, service vehicle spaces, and campus multiuse paths designated for emergency vehicle access. These vehicles are restricted from disabled parking spaces and roadways at all times. These vehicles are restricted from lawns and sidewalks except to provide specific service to substructures requiring tools and/or equipment.
Reason for Procedures
The Procedure is designed to provide vehicles used to maintain the campus infrastructure and respond to emergencies adequate access to areas of campus where services are needed.
Applicability of Procedures
This Procedure applies to University faculty and/or staff who either use a University owned vehicle or a personal vehicle for routine University service or emergency response.
University Vehicle: A vehicle either owned by the University or a personal vehicle, used to transport tools and/or equipment to service the University infrastructure on a daily basis as part of the normal job-related duties or to respond to campus emergencies.
University Vehicle Placard: A placard used in a private vehicle, which provides access to all areas of campus including those designated for shuttles and emergency vehicles. Placards may be issued to:
- Senior Officers (President, Provost, Vice Presidents, and Deans)
- Emergency Operations Group (for use during emergency events only - may be issued at no charge to individuals working on emergency response to a particular incident)
- Directors who have campus wide management responsibilities for infrastructure
- Staff who must use their personal vehicle to transport tools and/or equipment to maintain elements of the campus physical infrastructure on a daily basis
Vehicles displaying these placards may park for any length of time needed to perform the job function.
All University-owned vehicles will be registered with Transportation and Parking Services and receive a permit that will be placed on the passenger's side front windshield of the vehicle.
Individuals using a personal vehicle as a University vehicle must contact the Director of Transportation and Parking Services.
Placards are issued at the discretion of the Dean, Director, or Department Head in collaboration with the Director of Transportation and Parking Services. Once approved, individuals will be issued a placard, to be displayed in an unobstructed manner face up on the driver's side dashboard. Failure to display the placard will result in restricted area violations.
No fee is charged to vehicles owned by the University. Placards for personal vehicles will be $75 per year or $8 per day.
