In order to meet the required functions of University Departments, supplemental parking placards may be issued in addition to a University Parking Permit. Supplemental parking placards are issued to departments for use by faculty and staff (and in some cases students) who require access to parking areas outside of their normally assigned zone in order to perform required job functions. These permits are not meant to substitute for regular parking assignments, and must be used only when requirements of the job make such parking critical to the success of the department's operation.
Supplemental placards must be used in conjunction with a valid University on campus parking permit. Violations of the University's Parking Policies or the terms and conditions of the placard will be the responsibility of the individual displaying the placard. In cases where a department issues a placard to an ineligible individual, the department budget will be charged for fines associated with the citations. Excessive violations, or use of the permit for reasons other than job-related functions, may result in the loss of the supplemental placard.
Students are eligible to use Department Business placards issued to departments. In these cases, the department must assure the use is limited to department business. Students are not eligible to use the permit to attend classes or conduct research, except where a particular access is needed for transporting tools, equipment, or supplies. Departments violating this policy may have the placards revoked.
Service Vehicle Placard: A placard which provides access to parking areas in order to transport tools, equipment, or materials needed to perform job functions in areas of campus other than the home area for more than two hours at a time. In the home area (see definition below), these placards are limited to two hours of parking in any valid space and/or thirty (30) minutes of parking in a Service Vehicle space. Outside of the specified home area, placards with an authorized area of "Campus" are valid in Service Vehicle or regularly marked parking spaces at all times. In some circumstances placards may be authorized for specific lots only.
Department Business Placard: A placard which provides short-term access to parking areas in order to transport tools, equipment, or materials needed to perform job functions outside the home area, for less than two hours at a time. In the home area (see definition below), these placards are limited to two hours of parking in any valid space and/or thirty (30) minutes of parking in a Service Vehicle space. Outside of the specified home area, these placards are valid in Service Vehicle or regularly marked parking spaces up to two hours. Students are authorized to use this placard for the purposes of performing department related functions.
Home Area: Parking areas adjacent to the office location or address of individual(s) authorized to use the placard. Home areas are designated by the color of lots adjacent to office addresses and green areas by office location.
NOTE: The home zone restrictions are intended to be used as a time to pick up or drop off tools, equipment, and/or materials. Placards are for the purpose of performing work functions in other areas of campus and not as a substitute for permits authorized to park in the area. Repeated violations of this policy may result in revocation of this privilege.
Metered Parking: Vehicles displaying a supplemental parking placard may not park in gray visitor parking meters during the hours of operation as stated on the meter. Parking is allowed at meters with a green or yellow dome. When parking at green or yellow domed meters, money must be deposited and parking beyond the maximum time limit is prohibited.
Visitor Lot at 109 South Prospect Street: Vehicles displaying a valid supplemental parking placard in conjunction with a valid on-campus parking permit may use the Visitor Lot at 109 South Prospect Street for 30 minutes at no charge. Individuals will be responsible to pay the appropriate fee for time parked beyond the first 30 minutes.
Individuals or departments requiring supplemental parking placards must apply to Transportation and Parking Services by completing the online form including the appropriate signature.
Transportation and Parking Services will evaluate the request and issue a dashboard placard appropriate to the individual or department.
Individuals or department members who are eligible to use the placard will display the placard face up in an unobstructed manner on the driver's side dashboard. Failure to display the placard, or parked beyond the placard time limit, will result in restricted area violations.
Department Business Placards are $60 per year or $8 per day.
Service Vehicle Placards are $75 per year or $8 per day.
