Featured videos: Book trailers from The Edge

Students at Essex Middle School recently hosted a morning at the movies, and as part of the April 9th Celebration of Learning, shared their iMovie book trailers for The Hobbit, The Giver, Hostage to War, The Hobbit, The Amulet of Samarkand, Holes, Schooled, The Hobbit (v. popular book), and Cracker.
As facilitator Lindsey Slan Halman explained, the students had been forbidden to use any images off the internet, and thus got extra creative with their staging, imagery, props and acting. We think the students did an amazing job, and would like to thank them for being so willing to share their work.

Map apps on the iOS

photo descriptionFrom Hope Greenberg's exhaustive review of iOS Maps at UVM, we've put together a brief visual guide to our favorites, including Google Maps, Field Notes,  Galileo, History Maps, WorldMaps, and of course, Google Maps and Earth. Did we miss any of your favorites? Doing something amazing with maps in your classroom?  Share out in the comments.

MGI's Technology strand filling up fast

photo descriptionWow. We're a little amazed by the response we've gotten to registration for the 20th annual Middle Grades Institute, being held at picturesque Castleton State University. Specifically, the technology strand being led by Tarrant Institute Associate Director John Downes and Professional Development Ace Susan Hennessey is filling up quickly.

Is it the chance to spend a week getting intensive, focused technology instruction away from the distractions of home? The opportunity to hear first-hand from the GEAR-UP students what works for them? Or is it simply curiosity about Hennessey's plans for world domination through Badgestack? Answers on a postcard, please...
