Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) and Network Services are happy to share changes that are being made to the network budget. The new approach to centralizing fund collection for this core service across campus will help ensure annual dollars are set aside to address deferred maintenance and continue efforts to enhance and expand our university wireless.
Changes you will see include:
- There will be no charge to activate an existing data jack. Simply submit a work order through VeraSMART.
- Adding, moving or changing a VoIP phone will be a flat fee of $90.00.
- Any service request that requires infrastructure improvements will be billed at $80.00/hr for time and the cost of the materials needed to complete the infrastructure improvements. (i.e. needing a data jack in a location that does not already have one.)
- Network Services will not be sending monthly phone bills starting in FY 26. You will receive a monthly listing of the active extensions in your department with their locations.
- There will be no charge to disconnect a phone.
The change in the billing model goes into effect on July 1st. For June 2025 only, you will have two network services charges. The first charge will occur in the first week of June. This covers the May costs. The second will occur in the last week of June and covers the June cost. June 2025 is the only time you will see this occur.
Long Distance Code Changes
Starting July 1, Cisco VOIP/Jabber users will no longer need to use long distance codes from their UVM designated phone numbers for calls made within the United States. Nortel phone users are still required to use their assigned long-distance code per usual. Public phones, such as those available for safety reasons and/or not assigned to an individual or department, will be for local calling only. The dialing sequence will remain the same just no code will be needed at the end of the numbers.
Sequence will be: 80-1-area code-xxx-xxxx
