UVM/Community 2013 Biomass Feasibility Study (Phase I)

2012-13 Projects
Project Timeline:
05/2013 to 05/2014
Project Progress:
Project Category: Research/Study
This study examined the technical and financial feasibility of piping excess thermal energy from the nearby wood-fired McNeil Generating Station, the city’s existing power plant, to a portion of the UVM campus and the nearby hospital. This community energy idea is often described as “district heating  (DH).” If implemented, Community DH would bring UVM within reach of its student-supported goal of climate-neutral heating and cooling by 2020.
